Well, that's just misleading. And here I was hoping there were untold prizes just waiting for me to claim.

Logweasel 2003-12-28 04:15:49 PM
While I browsed the winning site I was thinking, "This is pretty average for middle-schoolers" and then I noticed that they're actually high school seniors.

LandStander [TotalFark] 2003-12-28 05:13:56 PM
The article could have at least provided a direct link.

neakid 2003-12-28 05:35:00 PM
I don't think someone with this ugly of a website should give out awards.

website

HairBolus 2003-12-28 05:35:12 PM
Sucky, sucky. A newspaper story about a prize winning website that doesn't give a link to the actual website (Wipeout). Maybe that's because the site sucks.

baby dinosaurs [TotalFark] 2003-12-28 05:40:30 PM
A newspaper article featuring a couple high school seniors' homework assignment. Next week: Area Boy Insists Mrs. Lee Assigns Too Many Subtraction Problems.

DoorsFanRob 2003-12-28 05:43:05 PM
Heh, they spent all summer on that? Looks like something you could slap together in five minutes on a freebie tripod page with their goofy pre-made templates.

slobarnuts 2003-12-28 05:43:45 PM
how is this farkable material?

dead_in_the_water 2003-12-28 05:49:44 PM
Why was this greenlighted? Where is the the humor (humour), irony, coolness or anything else?

Only slightly bitter over no approved links.

Ms Information 2003-12-28 05:50:35 PM
And, in a related story, MsInformation was awarded
today for laying in bed reading FARK and drinking
Cherry Coke all day long.

The judges said it was his style and panache that
caused him to be chosen over other people who are
laying in bed reading FARK.

"Thank god it's raining here, or I might have missed
out on this award due to being outside," said a happy
award-winning MsInformation.

Give 'um a break...they're in high school.

Ms Information What part of Russia are you in?

Ms Information 2003-12-28 05:56:53 PM
"What part of Russia are you in?"

The part that's called Washington State.

My family came from Russia. Ya Americanskij.

It just says that in my bio as a joke.

Number41 2003-12-28 05:57:17 PM
Ooo, a dictionary defintion as a splash page. I can't believe no one else has come up with that.

Pfff...award worthy? Nah.

TomKzinti 2003-12-28 05:57:35 PM
Man oh man, who cares? How did this get approved again?

maddog76 2003-12-28 06:11:03 PM
This is unrelated, but the ad for the fark personals (tune61) is a lie. At her page she says the five things she can't live without are "God, my mom, my friends, my job, my beer", but on Fark home page its says my Car, instead of God. Huh? Is Fark scared of god? what the hell?

Chipweenie 2003-12-28 06:15:50 PM
Voted most likely to have no life. People who surf the web are lose... uh..oh..nevermind.

Logweasel 2003-12-28 06:48:21 PM
Maddog76, the personals are not Fark-specific... you'll see the same ones on The Onion and countless other sites.

DMG 2003-12-28 06:57:12 PM

...

Shiftless 2003-12-28 07:03:34 PM
ouch. why waste your time?

What was this made with? AOL pagemaker?

Allbeitmine 2003-12-28 07:11:08 PM
my ass could have made a better website blindfolded...

TheProtong 2003-12-28 07:11:28 PM
I looked at their site, and I must say it really, really sucks ass. High School seniors spent 6 weeks on this? Must be the short school bus/helmet-wearing set.

fadeaway 2003-12-28 07:56:00 PM
Am I the only one that thinks "surfing the web" is one of the most ridiculous phrases ever coined?

Hybrid 2003-12-28 08:12:36 PM
It was inevitable after the term "channel surfing" was created.

Ruewin 2003-12-28 08:27:55 PM
My God, DMG. It looks like some purple monster has attached itself to all of Chantel's limbs and is slowly snaking its pink weener up her shorts! I hope the Life G saves her with her magic blue crack pipe!

The Symbol 2003-12-28 09:01:55 PM
I didn't want to say anything because I don't know enough about web sites to make one, but crap!

I have 2 on freeservers and they are WAY better.

Their guestbook didn't even work.

WTF?

felixelf 2003-12-28 09:04:57 PM
they may have a life and therefore not realize how important it is to be as computer savy as the critics here

Vindibudd 2003-12-28 09:13:15 PM
That article was confusing like a mofo. It was a bunch of words about nothing.

letdownjournals 2003-12-28 09:26:55 PM
Gaah. They used frames.

Brings back high school memories... Someone was always handing out worthless awards for the most mediocre efforts,

claporte 2003-12-28 09:49:48 PM
Pffft.. unimpressed...
I've been the 1,000,000th visitor to god-knows how many sites..... Not to mention all my pre-approved home-loans...

They have some weird pics on that site.

A Man Unhinged 2003-12-29 12:59:10 AM
Here's the winning site. It gets an OO for OOGLY.

From the HTML source:

meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0"

Big Whoop, kids. Next time you could save some steps and do "Save As HTML" from Word, m'kay?

TemporarySanity 2003-12-29 01:27:57 AM
a pair of what?

ZooDer 2003-12-29 02:04:34 AM
What is this Trio Think Quest. I have known of just Think Quest, which is still running... The logo at the top of the page is the Think Quest logo but with a triangle added to it... can someone clue me in, did Think Quest split up or something? (I haven't had time to look over the site completely to see if it answers my question, so far no.)

Allegrita [TotalFark] 2003-12-29 02:06:45 AM
i'm still trying to figure out why the tag line said "Pair wins award for surfing the web"

an absolutely horrible website given an award for being wonderful by a group with another absolutely horrible website... bleah. the tag should have been "scary" instead of "cool"

/also thinking this site would make a great SA ALOD
