A Gross Hall of Fame?

Jabber 2003-12-14 05:49:11 PM
Will Kurt Warner be inducted any time soon? I heard that he could sling those soup cans pretty good before he was signed by the Rams.

Go Riesbeck's!

/Distant relative?

beeferoni 2003-12-14 06:24:15 PM
In 1932, Margaret opened the first "Riesbeck's" on Zane Highway in Martins Ferry. Daughter Marguerite, was a "jack-of-all-trades" for the store, including occasional meat cutter.

I bet that Marguerite got her reputation as a "jack-of-all-trades" for something other than cutting meat. Perhaps just plain meat handling...

Too much silly tag.

Not just any Grocer's Hall of Fame, mind you, but the Ohio Grocer's Hall of Fame. So there.

akbarium 2003-12-14 06:37:47 PM
Ohio has an obsession with halls of fame. Sometimes it seems like every other town has one.

That sounds as silly as a "Top Links" list for fark.com.

Hey, grocery stores are big business here.

Not really, I'm just rationalizing our obsessions with halls of fame.

InternetSecurityGuard 2003-12-14 06:55:05 PM
Well ain't that the icing on the cake?

The original inductee to the Grocer's Hall of Fame. Rest in Peace, Mr. Hooper.

I stayed in Zainesville once. We ordered a pizza and they cut it in a grid!?! We ordered it with peppers on top and they had thrown a handful of uncooked peppers on it AFTER they had baked it. It proves my theory that good pizza cannot be had outside of the state of New York.

akbarium 2003-12-14 07:05:15 PM
Hey, that grid thing isn't that common. I only know of like 2 places that do that. It is annoying though.

Day_Old_Dutchie 2003-12-14 07:11:34 PM
They do that with the 'Edge' pizza at Pizza Hut..

Galen Weston - CEO of Loblaw (Grocery Store) here in Canada
is worth 9.2 billion dollars.

If you ever get a pizza cut in the grid style, ALWAYS start with those little corner pieces. After that, move around the perimeter. When you're done with that, throw it away. The middle is worthless.

Go to a grocery store and buy 13 bags of dog food and 13 gallons of milk. When you get to the register say, "Hey, I'm on the Atkins diet". Then leave everything there and walk out.

When will Ohio make a "Halls of Fame" Hall of Fame?

DoorsFanRob 2003-12-14 08:27:31 PM
My uncle owns a Neapolitan style pizza place and they cut their pizzas in squares. My great grandfather owned a grocery store in Havre, Montana way back when.

Spamzilla [TotalFark] 2003-12-14 08:38:08 PM
it's rigged!

I can't believe I'm contributing to this, but:

We get slab pizzas at work to celebrate whatever event we are celebrating... they are cut in squares, and the center pieces aren't useless... they just require some deft handling to keep you from wearing the toppings home.

whatastickywicket 2003-12-14 09:29:44 PM
We in Ohio take our groceries very seriously, you know.
Also, I work for a pizza place and we get many requests to cut the pizza in "squares". Also, I believe good pizza can only be found outside New York, actually. Those floppy grease slabs are the most disgusting thing i've ever had the misfortune to come in contact with.

beeferoni 2003-12-14 09:48:04 PM
If you had a grid-cut pizza in central Ohio, it was likely from Donato's Pizza. I love this stuff...

I hate McDonalds.

Letterman was a bag boy. He was very proud of it. Every year he would have the National Bag Boy champion come on the show and challenge him. I don't know if he has it on the show.

I used to work in the floral department of the grocery store, and if the front end was really busy, they would call one of us over to bag. We hated it; it was like a demotion. We thought we were better than the baggers -- we had a specialized skill, after all (not like I had any formal training as a florist, but I thought it was a cool part-time job to have during college).

some kids have no idea how to bag. this one kid would put clorox in with fresh produce, or big cans of cat food in with a loaf of bread. sheesh. no wonder the shoppers are always eyeballing baggers, or jkust tell them that they'll do it themselves.
