this actually looks kinda intriguing. I'll have to check it out.

Interesting, I can't think of another story in that format before. Snoop around, figure out the story for yourself. Good idea!

I just finished reading it. It was worth every penny I spent on it. Actually, now I feel guilty for giving a fake email address to download it. Good job.

That IS really interesting! And to think: we do that every day, for stories that cross our path. Think about it. Every time you see something blow up all over the internet, like the Icy Hot Stuntaz, or Libby Hoeller, or Mahir Cagri, or All Your Bass.........most people learn of these things not from their source, but from second and third generations of commentators, and so never get the entire story. So, entrigued at what all the hoopla is, they google for more info, trying to track down and understand what all the fuss is about, and learn about the entire story along the way. Getting to the truth of the matter.

That is a new and interesting way to tell a story. Instead of having a conventional novel tell you what's happening in bits and pieces when it wants to, the onus instead is up to you to do some sleuthing and try and piece together events of the story for yourself, and to get more involved in what characters, settings, scenes and events are happening. And because of this, every person will get something different out of it, because it's not read in a linear fashion, and each person has their own interpretations about what's going on.

At least, that's what I think is going on. Is it?

This has always been a hit-or-miss idea. Anyone remember the PC game "Majestic"? For $10 a month, you were part of a mystery story as it was unfolding. They'd call you on your phone and leave messages, instant message you, send emails, make fake websites, etc. Way before it's time, I think.

Anyway, this one seems very interesting! Keep it up

I "have" enough "adventures" via my "own" e-mail.

Just finished reading.

A great format. I'd maybe recommend a version two to up it to another level, i.e. voicemail, etc.

But that's not to take away from a great project. Nicely done!

PS - you may want to put an uninstall link on the start menu, unless you figure people will be reading it over and over.

Wonderful in both design and execution. But, of course, that never stopped me from offering advice to make it even better.

The interface appears limited to 640x480. It is too small for my screen and font sizes. The tedious scrolling in the e-mails almost made me abandon the story in the first week.

I am still on week two - friday. This is really original, I can't wait to finish it. You are aware people are soon going to start nagging you for a sequel?

I must admit I was worried about installing an exe, but no adware so far :) Have you ever considered doing an online version with just pure html?

BKBroiler 2003-12-08 07:50:18 PM
I loved it! I spent 1.5 consecutive hrs going through the entire thing, which is a rarity.
Only minor problem was some spelling mistakes here and there (which you could easily pass off as 'the character's mistake' if you wanted, though).

Can I say I've read a book now?

BKBroiler 2003-12-08 07:51:41 PM
Oh yeah, and what was supposed to be the main point of my post: genius format idea.

No Mac support!!?? Man, this looks like a neat idea but you really lose a lot of people.
Don't bother flaming, just my $.02.

majestic WAS really cool.

There were email notices that the beta was starting soon, but in fact those emails were the start of the game..

really excellent idea, but unfortunately wasnt able to get going.

I like that idea. The ending was a little lame, but the whole thing was pretty interesting. It would work wonders if pr0n-ed up a little. Imagine the .jpgs, cam stills, bad one-handed typing...

YourWastedGirlfriend 2003-12-10 05:39:06 PM
The first time I got called, it scared the crap out of me for a split second.

Someone should resurrect Majestic. Only make it profitable this time. And also free.

well they lost me cause I would have paid five bucks for it but it's not for a mac. I'll prolly check back in a few months and see if they have a new version for OSX. It looks pretty cool.
