I'm not sure this is all that stupid. The Leisure Suit Larry games were pretty funny. I'm sure it won't be as violent, but I bet the driving cars and the such will be similiar. Maybe more like the Simpsons Hit & Run games.

low_dazzle 2003-10-20 02:39:43 PM
i am fully aware that this invloves pandering to the 80's youth's sence of nostaglia... and i really dont care...

playing leisure suit larry while going through puberty is one of those experiences that i wouldn't trade for the world

minoridiot 2003-10-20 02:46:05 PM
Leisure Suit Larry was the first game I actually paid for. Well worth the time to try and get the little digital guy laid.

qgene 2003-10-20 02:46:54 PM
I'm w/ you low_dazzle except I didn't even understand half the stuff when I played it. But boy was that a fun game.

America is the country of LOVE 2003-10-20 03:50:23 PM
Not stupid

ToxicVodka 2003-10-20 03:51:32 PM
let me guess. The submitter is in high school?

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2003-10-20 03:52:49 PM
Ah, my roommates and I wasted many, many evenings with Leisure Suit Larry my freshman year of college.

gmontag 2003-10-20 03:53:30 PM
No, this is stupid 'cause slashdot said it was cool a while ago

ducks

wierdaaron 2003-10-20 03:53:56 PM
Ditto. First Leisure Suit Larry game I played was #7 (Love for Sail), and this was when I was like 10 - so I didn't get any of the jokes except the most obvious, but I loved it. Especially the easter eggs. Animated nudity is still nudity when you're a pre-teen.

bolax 2003-10-20 03:54:34 PM
Just because its going to be GTA like doesn't mean that it will be GTA.

They could be using the game-engine ... I doubt they will be going for realistic graphics, rather, sticking with the whole cartoon look.

Tjack 2003-10-20 03:55:23 PM
Al Lowe has nothing to do with this new game.

SparkyRoosta 2003-10-20 03:56:06 PM
I just remember being bummed when my mom wouldn't let me buy "The Leather Goddess of Phobos" which purported to be related to Leisure Suit Larry.

And why stupid? There's SOOOOO much potential there.

Trouble 2003-10-20 03:56:48 PM
Now if they would bring back Space Quest, I would be happy.

azakendt 2003-10-20 03:57:04 PM
You can download some of Al Lowe's early games here.

hobbitgh0d42 2003-10-20 03:57:07 PM
Leisure Suit Larry without Al Lowe is like Not taking the condom off after sex with the hooker!

(Any Die Hard Larry fan will get that joke...)

CaptainCampbell 2003-10-20 03:57:14 PM
Wasn't "Lust in Space" the tentative title for Leisure Suit Larry 8?

crosses fingers

deevo 2003-10-20 03:59:28 PM
Yea, it's pretty sad that nobody knows who Leisure Suit Larry is. I talk about the games and everybody in school is like "WTF? Sounds retahded."

PortWineBoy 2003-10-20 04:00:22 PM
Stupid? This is awesome!

filth [TotalFark] 2003-10-20 04:00:33 PM
Own up! Who called this stupid?

swahnhennessy 2003-10-20 04:00:38 PM
A "stupid" tag? Good god, man! What would you prefer? Daiktana 2?

farknico 2003-10-20 04:00:49 PM
I still remember playing the original Leisure Suit Larry. Trying to get him laid in the city of Lost Wages. The monochrome cga graphics were nothing to look at, but the lines in the story were great!

Your breath smells like the inside of a glove.

Oh now where did I put my breath spray?

Wubbya 2003-10-20 04:00:49 PM
I hate GTA. I liked Leisure Suit Larry, although the last time I played it was when I was 8.

Now, if I can find it for free...

jonathanw 2003-10-20 04:00:59 PM
stupid??? fark YOU

macfrugal 2003-10-20 04:01:43 PM
wooooooooooh! Larry Returns!

WizardX 2003-10-20 04:02:27 PM
Don't you just wish Sierra would admit that they died years ago and just go away?

macfrugal 2003-10-20 04:03:05 PM
now if we can just get spacequest back.

Apocalypsecow 2003-10-20 04:03:11 PM
Stupid? More like . Sounds like the submitter isn't old enough to have even played the first one.

dusty15893 2003-10-20 04:03:46 PM
Ya who's the asshat who put this as "stupid", LLA was the shiat...and if you think otherwise you'll probably won't make it far in life...so you should probably just go kill yourself now.

"Oh my god, is he advocating suicide?"

loudmouthsoup 2003-10-20 04:03:49 PM
I only had one of them, but it was fun. Should be interesting what see what they do with it.

Not stupid.

Tjack 2003-10-20 04:04:00 PM
Thanks azakendt!
I like this mp3 most of all:

Ingwit_Agenbite 2003-10-20 04:04:16 PM
I'm just praying that Lucas Arts starts making good graphic adventure games again. Escape from Monkey Island was such a let-down.

And am I the only one who really enjoyed LOOM, even if it was too short?

Rurik 2003-10-20 04:04:38 PM
Stupid?? LSL was a great niche market, hilarious adventure games that people actually enjoyed playing, and men (and some women) got a kick out of. My wife hates pornography, but likes the LSL games. Nothing stupid about this at all. Long live polyester!

azakendt 2003-10-20 04:05:43 PM
It doesn't pander to 80s youths -- the first one was release in 1991. 90s youths.

CaptainCampbell 2003-10-20 04:07:07 PM
I hope it won't be long before Phantasmagoria (another Sierra classic) gets another sequel.

Isuldirs 2003-10-20 04:07:12 PM
I think this would be cool

I loved LSL games back in the day

uncleozzy 2003-10-20 04:08:00 PM
Holy crap, there was a LSL7? Gotta get me some of that, even if it's as awful as I imagine it is.

WizardX 2003-10-20 04:08:02 PM
Ingwit_Agenbite

Loom was absolutely brilliant. It may not have been too difficult as a game, but as a sort of interactive movie it was wonderful. And, tangentially, it was responsible for a young me discovering the joys of Tchaikovsky, and he remains my favorite composer to this day.

szyska 2003-10-20 04:08:17 PM
I like the fact that Serria said that there would never be a 4th L.S.L. After the third one, they jumped right to # five.
no mombo tho...

G_Fish [TotalFark] 2003-10-20 04:08:21 PM
its 80s youth because in 91 kids from the 80s were almost teens

TurnerBrown 2003-10-20 04:08:23 PM
damn you guys are making mee feel old.

GoblinKing 2003-10-20 04:08:37 PM
:: goes in search of the games:: I remember seeing previews for these games but could never find them :\

cant wait for another make of it, I hope there as good as the originals looked.

phong3d 2003-10-20 04:08:49 PM
I think the submitter put the "Stupid" tag in since (s)he seems to have gleaned from the article that LSL will be capping hookers, shooting down helicopters with surface-to-air missiles and running drugs for the local kingpin. I think the article blurb was making a reference to Grand Theft Auto since it's likely that this LSL game will be a free-roaming concept in a large-scale, interactive environment.

morden2261 2003-10-20 04:09:40 PM
I am so very happy to hear Larry is coming back!

rax 2003-10-20 04:10:30 PM
Hmm... sounds like it will resemble LSL in name only... truely sad.

For those of you that are Sierra game fans (especially the older ones) check out Sierra On-Line Fan Site set up by founder Ken Williams.

Xeonicus 2003-10-20 04:11:13 PM
Not Stupid. Cool! I remember play in the Land of Lounging Lizards. Remember the "age verification" system in the beginning? That was before I discovered the secret key combination that allowed you to bypass that screen. Funny thing is, I played that game the other day for nostalgia reasons. But alas, even though I said I was 22 I didn't know all those wonderful "Kennedy era" questions. So I had to cheat again.... *grumble* I'm looking forward to this new one. *wonders what it will be like*

LineNoise [TotalFark] 2003-10-20 04:12:37 PM
Now if they only bring back day of the tentacale

MyRushmore 2003-10-20 04:12:38 PM
"Grass green, I hate that color."

LineNoise [TotalFark] 2003-10-20 04:12:42 PM
Now if they only bring back day of the tentacale

DECMATH 2003-10-20 04:13:24 PM
WTF, a Garner Ted Armstrong-style game?
I gotta get out more.

Werbal_Kint 2003-10-20 04:14:20 PM
Who's the ass-munch who said stupid?
