When carefully looking at the fingers, the crack detectives noticed that the long fingernails had been expertly manicured and coated with a bright red nail polish. It was at this point that someone in the group -- nobody remembers who -- suggested, "Gee, you think this might be the arm of a woman?"

The detectives all paused, looked at each other, and then nodded and grunted in agreement.

A passerby found the arm shortly before 3 p.m.

This story reminds me of an episode of Hill Street Blues ...

At the beginning of the show, some of the officers are at the scene of an accident, and they are tasked to look for a victim's arm. They eventually find it in the gutter. One of them picks it up, noticing the wristwatch still on the arm. He yells, "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking!" The others start laughing ... and ... SCENE!

Shortly after the arm was discovered, this odd bunch showed up, spouting some nonsense about "Manfred" and the end of the universe ...
