Sorry JeffOWL, wandered away from the PC for a moment (my wife got involved in my Sunday activities) and you beat me to it.

Rumbleminz [TotalFark] 2003-08-17 09:10:44 PM
Reminds me of an episode of Trigger Happy TV where an "MI5" agent recruited select individuals at a prep school.

"Could you eliminate someone we consider a security threat?"

pkubin 2003-08-17 09:39:43 PM
I want a gun. I want a gun. Maybe they'll give me a gun.

wh0mprat 2003-08-17 10:36:34 PM
I was going to join CSIS until I saw the salary.

And I'm not that interested in doing background checks anyway.

Superjoe 2003-08-17 10:44:41 PM
Do they hire Americans? I need an excuse to ditch this crap economy.

Rosalea 2003-08-17 10:50:58 PM
oh man I so wish Icould apply.

Although I'm now thinking maybe I should add some unusual foreign language classes to my course schedule. And apply for the CIA when I have my bachelors.

FarkinFarker 2003-08-17 10:53:41 PM
I could probably look this up, but I'm too lazy, so some UK farker will have to enlighten me. What is the difference between MI5 and MI6? Is it like CIA/FBI?

Creep Vassalage 2003-08-17 11:21:12 PM
More like CIA/NSA I think.

CodeBlue40 2003-08-17 11:39:06 PM
No. FarkinFarker is correct.

MI5 = FBI = Domestic intelligence; safeguarding the country from the inside.

MI6 = CIA = Overseas service; safeguarding the country from outside threats. Possibly working to help other governments as well.

As an added note, I'm really digging the MI5 series they show on A&E.

DangerMouse55 2003-08-18 12:01:46 AM
Good pension scheme at the Security Service (mi5), its paid by the treasury, so you dont lose all your pension money when the stock markets go tits up.

They have a nice gym i hear, too.

noooo 2003-08-18 12:03:54 AM
FBI is a law enforcement agency, MI5 is a domestic intelligence agency, some overlap but not the same

Bildo [TotalFark] 2003-08-18 12:18:58 AM
Superjoe:

They require that you be British, at least one of your parents must be British, and you have to have lived in Britain for the last 10 years. If you had a good GPA in college you could try for the CIA, but I've heard it's real tough to get on there.

Scaryduck 2003-08-18 02:02:32 AM
Send for your MI6 job application form at:

PO Box 1300
London
SE1 1BD

Mark your envelope "YES! I want to be a spy, shag about and kill people!"

Okibi 2003-08-18 02:13:50 AM
This should be the link to the MI6 job description.

theurge14 2003-08-18 03:57:04 AM
So when MI5 and MI6 join forces, is it MI11?

wldncrzy14 2003-08-18 05:21:18 AM
Or are their forces multiplied to become MI30?

gr8fulnded 2003-08-18 05:38:12 AM
Why is this news? How else would you expect them to fill vacancies?

Tumeric 2003-08-18 06:43:35 AM
The CIA/FBI/NSA have been recruiting out of high school for a while. They would offer you full scholarships through college + a nice stipend and a summer job. But they require a lot though.

CIA: High GPA, foreign languages, business, finance, majors, "personal skills"
FBI: Criminal Justice, Law, Science majors
NSA: High GPA, Engineering and Math and CS majors

Unfortunately they required both your parents to be US citizens (my parents are immigrants and only my dad is naturalized) to get the scholarship. That doesn't mean you can't join on your own. I hear they are desperate for people with Arabic language skills and would pay you to learn in while in college.

SidVacant 2003-08-18 07:44:07 AM
They've been pimping for a while now. Probably because most of their staff joined the KGB (now FSB).

remains loyal to his country.

I find it funny that they have to put that in. Loyal probably means "does what Tony tells them to do".

They're building is farking grand though. You should see the inside. Very swish.

JustDont 2003-08-18 08:13:12 AM
MI5 are much more "sneaky-beaky" than the FBI...they only deal with "National Security" stuff, and not say a murder unless it had special significance.plus neither MI5 or MI6 have any actual powers to arrest you, only the police do.
MI6 seem to keep a lower profile than the CIA as well. The CIA have armed agents that you hear about raiding places over seas...where as MI6 use the SAS and just deny anything ever happened, ever =)
