Holy ...

I just cant even wrap my head around that.

I've been hit by 1" hail and it felt like someone dropping pinballs off the roof of a building at me.

And it's official, the hail stone was the heaviest in the US at 1.94 pounds and a circumference of about 18.6 inches. The scary thing is that it was on the ground evaporating for a good hour or two before it was picked up, and the man that found it said there were several larger hail stones, but he picked up that one because of the spines on it.

Thanks for that weather update.

And now here's Ric Romero, to tell us how hailstones are hard, wind sometimes blows very fast, and every year idiots in Tornado Alley are amazed that every tornado season they get to experience lots of both.

Okay, I'm kind of creeped out by the hairy, wrinkly fleshy surface that hailstone is sitting on. dstanley's too. I hope that is fake fur and not a human's skin.

Big old hellstone that fell during a storm in Georgia last year, doing $1500 of damage to my car and destroying our roof. Didn't measure it. Wish I'd frozen it. It was knobby and nodule-covered and pretty cool looking.

Looks like deer skin to me, not really creepy or unusual if you live in South Dakota.
