FTA: 24 hours worth of video are being uploaded to the video-sharing site every minute

No person or group of people can absorb and rationalise this amount of information. The computers have won.

Forget the shows, when I have time to kill, I look up any music videos from the 80's/90's and act like I just got my MTV.

Pour some sugar on meeeeeeeeeeee (in the name of love)!

This is youtube, so you're only expected to do the former, cutting the necessary time in half!

/Wonder what you'd be left with after stripping it of useless and duplicate entries.

Pff. Strip out the commercials and a 30 minute show is pretty damned near 15 minutes already.

15 minutes of a cat playing the piano is too much. 12 minutes is sufficient.

I can safely say all but 10 seconds of the video uploaded every minute is pretty much useless, anyway. That leaves me with about 2 and a half hours of worthwhile video being uploaded daily, which is manageable.

If the computers do become self-aware and absorb it all, though, they'll probably just decide to go all Skynet on our asses.

Makes you wonder what the bandwidth costs are. I mean video cameras get cheaper and better every two quarters. More people are able to afford cell phones with video cameras. I mean jesus, I'm sure google can afford a decent chunk of bandwidth, but when you become the sole site on the internet where everyone on Earth uploads videos to, how the hell can you afford it?

That was a really cool article. It reminded me of telephone operators, how in the beginning it was something like 1 operator for every 4 users and today it is 1 operator for every 500,000.

My goal is to be able to have nonstop traffic and weather on my radio. 1010 WINS is on the 1s. WCBS is on the 8s. I want to say 1130 WBBR is on the 5s (at least for part of the day).

Dude: every day, for centuries, the aggregate global daily volume of printed hardcopy text has far exceeded the capacity of any individual to read. So is it also your view that the printing press won?

A non-event in the posting of sitcoms, there has only been 18 mins of content in those for a while, the other is 12 commercials and if you are uploading that part your are doing it wrong...

Weird...that actually makes sense. Despite some of the same grammatically confusing mistakes the headline made. But who cares...I never watched fishing shows in the first place.

That's modern TV Shows, which are 21-22 minutes.

Older sitcoms were usually 24-26 minutes.

But, that still falls neatly into the two part range.

Cool, now they can just break all the anime eps at the eye-catch.

LesserEvil: If the computers do become self-aware and absorb it all, though, they'll probably just decide to go all Skynet on our asses.

Considering everything that gets uploaded to youtube, facebook, twitter, and such, we would likely not end up with skynet or the matrix. We'd probably end up with robot versions of Beavis & Butthead running around. Or the evil robot versions of Bill & Ted.

Klasik: A 22 minutes shows have always been broken into three pieces on YouTube, but with 15 minute slots they only have to be broken into 2 pices.

Ok, but half-hour shows are still typically conceived and shot in three distinct acts, plus sometimes a prologue and/or epilogue.

It's weird when stations buy syndicated programming and move the ad breaks around and ruin the show timing. Like watching an episode of Family Guy on TBS.

Eh, sure we can. between 6 billion people we can watch way more than 24 hours worth of video between us per minute. Plus meta tags and view counts/ect help sort things out.
