OK - ran my errands. Books back to the library, dry cleaning picked up and grocery store done.

I loved Pat Conroy's new one South of Broad, my husband didn't like it as well. But he grew up Catholic and figured out the kicker early on.

Where's my football! I guess this means I have to clean the bathrooms instead. :(

I've decided -- temp to be a high of 68 today, drizzly -- first chili of the season -- it's a GO!

Now we just need a fire in the fireplace. I love fall.

how was Texas?

Jaxom 2009-09-28 10:10:48 AM
Knob, have you been to Cabo San Lucas?

knobglobbler55 2009-09-28 10:14:58 AM
No, but I was on a $900K Ovation 52 that I kinda liked. Reduced down from $1.5M

medius [TotalFark] 2009-09-28 10:19:06 AM
have you drank cabo wabo?

gorbishof 2009-09-28 10:19:54 AM
900k? I'd kinda like one also. Oh well, I bought the neighbor glasses and a new fuel pump fot the truck.

knobglobbler55 2009-09-28 10:21:08 AM
you'd probably need some water to put it in. prbably be more fun that way.

Jaxom 2009-09-28 10:24:32 AM
Just $900K? Chump change. Twin diesels?

gorbishof 2009-09-28 10:27:33 AM
Water would be a good start. Warm weather would also be a plus.

knobglobbler55 2009-09-28 10:30:16 AM
Just $900K? 3 Volvos I think. We really luved the American tug 34' (~$300K) and the Norden Tug 34. Perfect for 2 to live/travel on. Add a flybridge and it kicks major ass.

So, what's up with this "Gossip: Music for Men" ad? Is this a Farker's band or something?

Ad?

knobglobbler55 2009-09-28 10:34:56 AM
Jax, I'm really surprised you don't own a major boat. My skrink buddy says it's the ultimate "you've arrived" statement.THe flybridge on the Ovation sits ~15ft above the water line, it's like being king of the world. And I never guessed how cool the electronics stuff is today - GPS, Radar, Depth, auto pilot etc the consoles look like the starship Enterprise.

Ruffian 2009-09-28 10:45:32 AM
Texas was most excellent. My sister has some really hot friends. I'm having trouble remembering all the details.

Jaxom 2009-09-28 10:49:02 AM
Don't have enough money to comfortably own one of those. I have two coworkers who have them. The one I know best has a 54 ft. It is his third large boat. When I have been with him he constantly works on it. Something always needs doing.

That is ok if you want to spend your time doing it, but I don't. It costs a fortune to have someone else keep it up. I'll just lounge on the beach and drink beer.

Sensei [TotalFark] 2009-09-28 10:51:51 AM
knobglobbler55: My skrink buddy says it's the ultimate "you've arrived" statement.

Let me guess -- a boat owner himself?

I usually count on my expensive perfume to do that.

knobglobbler55 2009-09-28 10:59:06 AM
a boat owner himself? No, he's a Woody Allen Manhattanite, never even been to a boat show.

knobglobbler55 2009-09-28 11:05:28 AM
Something always needs doing.

Like what? Look at Gorby and all his machines?

Lemme ask you, if it's so expensive etc why are there still boat shows with tons of new expensive toys to buy? Somebody must be buying these things, no?

gorbishof 2009-09-28 11:09:53 AM
Saltwater is a biatch.

Ruffian 2009-09-28 11:18:28 AM
Because there are still plenty of super rich people out there. But mostly, the giant boats are probably more show pieces. There might be one or two potential buyers there, but mostly they attract people who will then also check out the less expensive boats. A friend from college, her husband sells yachts. And he does very few shows. He usually has a crew that take one or two boats down to Florida for private showings/cruises. But the big shows do provide the landlocked with touch and feel. Not that many cities do big boat shows. I know Chicago's has shrunk over the years.

medius [TotalFark] 2009-09-28 11:24:09 AM
it shrinks?

Yah, no FF at work.

knobglobbler55 2009-09-28 11:26:39 AM
still plenty of super rich people out there Yeah, I guess. I don't know any of them. Boating is probably pretty big around Chicago esp North of the city (and in the warmer months). Must be nice to go out on the lake on a nice day.

knobglobbler55: Lemme ask you, if it's so expensive etc why are there still boat shows with tons of new expensive toys to buy? Somebody must be buying these things, no?

Of course someone is buying those things, the someone just is not going to be me. I have owned a boat, and that cured me. In addition, for 3 summers I worked every day as a divemaster on a 55 foot trawler. Divemaster translates as crew who does everything. Cleaning the boat, changing the oil, fueling the boat, rewiring the constantly breaking electronics, etc. I don't like doing that stuff.

I used to restore cars too, I don't want to do that anymore.

I do like going to the Caribbean and Mexico and having things fetched for me.

Jaxom 2009-09-28 11:31:31 AM
Speaking of which, we had a couple stay with us at the beach this weekend. They invited us to go to Cabo with them this January for a week. All we have to pay is the airfare. I'm psyched.

HAMMERTOE [TotalFark] 2009-09-28 11:33:13 AM
I'm perfectly happy with my bass boat. If I'm on the water, I want to be near the water. Plus, it pulls my kids around in their tube very well. The only statement it needs to make is Gone Fishin'.

That sounds good too!

Sounds like you're getting a little long in the tooth, son.

Lake Michigan has a great boating scene. A guy in my group of friends, his dad owns nice big boat that they all frequently go out on. I don't get the invite all that often: there is limited room, I'm not a close friend, and I don't have breasts. Once a summer they have the Chicago Scene boat party, where everyone docks up together out from Oak St. Beach (the play pen). It's a giant booze fest.

Lot's of girls in bikinis. How bad could that be? Looks like a lot of fun. How swimable is that water? Looks pretty clean.

Ruffian 2009-09-28 12:13:56 PM
Totally swimmable. They test the water once or twice a day. I don't recall too many days where the beaches were closed this summer. And yes, very fun. We jump off the top of the boat all the time. Lots of naughty at the Scene. I'll have to go back out next summer and get some pics. Hell, all the other weekends are just about as fun - you can get a dozen or more just on one boat.

knobglobbler55 2009-09-28 12:32:43 PM
that's amazing a city that large could have a play pen that nice and close. looks like miami. get a jet ski, that's really all you need
