Headline: Court rules a woman must help pay the prostitute bills her ex racked up while they were still married

FTA: A HUSBAND who spent thousands of dollars on prostitutes and massages does not have to pay it back to his wife, the Family Court has ruled.

Hm.

brainiac-dumdum [TotalFark] 2010-06-25 06:33:02 AM
Not really accurate, the wife is not being allowed to retroactively claim the whore money as part of her husband's divorce settlement.

Based on the headline I was expecting to get mad, but this makes sense to me.

Sounds like she wants some free money for male escorts.

I got a little mad at the Telegraph for being misleading. Then I remembered it's the Telegraph and I was mad at myself for expecting anything else.

Yeah the headline was misleading. But seriously, he is a worthless fark. I agree with the decision and she is just trying to get every penny worth out of it, and I cannot come to a conclusion why. The article made a comment about him meeting family obligations so I think she is unemployed or at the very least not earning much. Also she could be trying to make his life hell by making him offer up cash which they have to split.

I can't understand it, what the fark is with the fascination of money that makes people like this? I work hard for my money so I can buy stuff, that is all.But I do work hard for it, therefor I appreciate it. If I lost it all and had nothing again, I would work hard to rebound. I only work to enjoy life, yet at the same time what I put in to get it is half of the glory. trust me I do not make much at all, but what ever happened to pride?

JuggleGeek 2010-06-25 06:45:31 AM
Justice Rose said the husband, 58, had begun seeing prostitutes after a payout of more than $1.4 million in 2007 from an horrific car crash several years earlier that left him with serious injuries.

By then the couple had split.

She's wanting money that he got, and spent, after they split up. She's a worse whore than the prostitutes he spent the money on.

So basically he got a million dollars from a settlement so he went out and probably did two chicks at the same time.

that headline was so far off the mark I was wondering if I was reading the correct article.

Man and woman divorce. Man gets into car crash, gets big payout. Newly single man decides to spend his money on hookers. Ex-wife wants money. Judge says No.

It may well be the only sort of sexual encounters with someone else he's going to have are via prostitutes. Depending on just what his condition is, I may feel bad for him.

The wife sounds like a money grubbing whore in her own right.

A correct, while redundant statement. Women are like wet hornets when crossed. There's an automatic sense of entitlement especially when going through dividing EQUALLY all assets. All that 'I am woman hear me roar', ERA stuff goes right out the window and suddenly it's 1950 again wherein - God forbid - a woman may have to adjust to a new lifestyle, after treating her husband like a doormat. Where's your equal rights now??... oh, I forgot - you're a woman suffering in a male dominated society and a VICTIM... waaaaaa.

Suck it up sweetheart. Get a job, earn your keep and next time, try being a real woman so it doesn't happen again.

pippi longstocking: I find this acceptable. Why should men pay for the woman's car, housing, debts, etc... in a divorce and not vice versa?

Back in the olden days, women didn't work after they were married. Men were out their advancing their careers while their wives were at home raising their children and washing their socks. And when the marriage ended, these women found themselves suddenly without very many options.

This is somewhat less common at present but it does still happen.

jafiwam 2010-06-25 08:03:03 AM
How would this be any different than the soon to be ex wife secretly getting another credit card and racking up thousands on.. . . whatever it is women spend money on?

It isn't.

Until the papers are filed, the debt is joint, and the person not spending money like crazy gets screwed. That's just how it is.

If it's a woman this time, it's news because it is. Big deal.

bump [TotalFark] 2010-06-25 08:03:23 AM

.... and back then, the law make PERFECT sense. If a wife were to raise the kids and sacrifice while hubby went from undergrad to chief resident then dumped her, he'd owe her - no argument. BUT anyone remember the 70s? (doubtful here) wherein we were bludgened with 'a woman can do anything a man can do, only better', 'a woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle', and 'when God created man, she was only kidding'... Again, you wanted equal rights - you got it. Just don't come poor-mouthing once a marriage is over - split equally and walk away. You can't have it both ways...

Reading comprehension failure.

Spiteful ex-wife wants a bigger slice of hubby's money on the theory that there would be more for her to take if he hadn't spent some of it on himself. Judge says, no, married people don't have to refund spouses for money spent amusing themselves when they divorce. This is probably a wise move, given that all husbands and all wives "waste" a lot of money on personal amusements if they are married long, and if you tried to account for it all in divorce court there would be no end of it.

"Your Honor, on 24 October, 1998, my wife ordered a medium pizza with mushrooms, pineapples and extra cheese from Dominos for $16.99. She did not share any. I have the receipt right here..."

stewbert 2010-06-25 08:13:50 AM
My ex wife cut me off a long time before our divorce. She wouldn't talk about what was wrong, and started spending her time with another guy from work as "just friends".

When I finally got wise, I used our joint checking on a hooker and then to buy drinks for other women at bars. The least she could do is pay her half of that, IMO.

Women still aren't paid as much as men.

After a divorce, women's lifestyles tank while men's rise.
Women are usually the major support for any children of the marriage and all the child support doesn't cover half the cost of raising the kids.

But poor little men are always willing to gripe about how much it costs to ditch the wife and kids.

/just sayin

This woman however, isn't entitled to the money, since she was already gone. His KIDS are entitled to some of the money now since they are still his kids.

Isn't that always the reason men stray?

Women always act so shocked when men cheat, but the solution is quite simple. Steak and Blow Jobs. You do that for us on a regular - 3-4x a week - basis and you will never have to worry about finding us in bed with another woman.

Maybe it was exposed for the nonsense it is? Hard work is necessary but isn't something to be held up as a virtue. Just a slow grind to get something else we want/need. It's only exalted as a virtue by people looking to exploit you for their benefit and in an almost Stockholm Syndrome fashion we tend to internalize that "virtue."

/That being said, if you're single there are much worse ways to blow your money

Hahahahahaha. I have quite a few friends who support their ex partners via child support (far too much $$). Some of them have even started new lives with somebody else. You think the money gets spent on the kids?
The amount of money their ex drains them for weekly prevents them from providing a half decent life for their new family.
Judging by your profile you should shut the fark up.

Well the part about men's lifestyles getting better after a divorce is not a lie. A man's lifestyle gets worse the instant you say "I do" unless your wife does not become the typical "uses sex as a control device" nagging biatch.
