Gwinny [TotalFark] 2003-05-14 02:51:07 PM
I don't get it. Why would this be on NPR?

Bukharin [TotalFark] 2003-05-14 02:51:15 PM

Afternoon is almost over!

WTF?

Baron 2003-05-14 02:56:28 PM
The PS contest smelled a little fishy already. This explains it.

Henchman 2003-05-14 02:58:11 PM
Larry, here's your stopwatch. It's set for 15 minutes. Enjoy!

motherfunker 2003-05-14 02:59:26 PM
Eh, who cares...just dick the fish.

stubblyhead 2003-05-14 03:00:19 PM
Bukharin--when all things considered comes on. it starts at 3 here, but i'm in central time. i guess it starts at 4 in eastern.

Drew [TotalFark] 2003-05-14 03:00:32 PM
I had no idea they were going to make mention of this beforehand, Bruce told me just today about it

Henchman 2003-05-14 03:01:21 PM
Or after midnight, it will be available on their archives at NPR.org. Its in RA format, however (I know some people have a thing about that).

On a side note, Drew...

If I were you, I'd add (God of Fark) along side(Admin) (Moderator) in my profile.

But I'm pretty egotistical like that.

nothingyet 2003-05-14 03:04:52 PM
Someone please photoshop the 'Bert Is Evil' photo of Bert next to Larry's face.

Elvira [TotalFark] 2003-05-14 03:07:28 PM
At first I didn't read that as Larrys face -

I thought is was Larry s face....

which I think is more appropriate. ;-D

DixieNormus 2003-05-14 03:08:41 PM
"New: Support Larry's Face!" Why is it there's always a "give me money for nothing please" link?

NPR. The last frontier of tree-hugging liberal talk radio.

MOST... USELESS... SITE... EVAR...

IS this the "Larry Christ" everyone talks about?

NPR sucks. Except when its good.

blahpers 2003-05-14 03:18:22 PM
DixieNormus: Indeed, I thought about putting a link on my website labeled "Give me money", complete with a description on exactly what I'd do with said money (e.g., pizza and video games), and see what happens. Of course my site would need a gimmick as incredibly clever as Larry's face. Perhaps chewing gum sculpture?

Henchman 2003-05-14 03:23:03 PM
"NPR. The last frontier of tree-hugging liberal talk radio."

Note the obvious comment by someone who's never listened to it, or confuses NPR with Pacifica.

NICU8697 2003-05-14 03:23:13 PM
Wow Beware_The_Lollipop, what's your PayPal account name?

where's that damn credit card???

blahpers 2003-05-14 03:23:18 PM
Heheh, very timely.

Hemlock 2003-05-14 03:23:19 PM
"Face" is just not funny.

Bah!

schmotze 2003-05-14 03:29:43 PM
just a question on the fact that there is a "copyright larrysface.com" on each one of them - aren't the (c)'s the original ps'er?

schmotze 2003-05-14 03:30:42 PM
nvm - thought I saw a (c) on them....my bad.

Alter-Ego 2003-05-14 03:35:28 PM

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

"Mary's Legs" much better.

Ku_No_Ichi [TotalFark] 2003-05-14 04:06:16 PM
I'm confused...
Did the site owner ask th P'shoppers if he could use the picts and add his site url to them?
(I can't seem to see where on his site he mentions Fark and / or our beloved Photoshoppers.)
Could someone explain this to me?

Drew [TotalFark] 2003-05-14 04:09:28 PM
Bruce told me he contacted and received permission from the authors of every pic that is on larrysface.com

Badguy 2003-05-14 04:11:49 PM

what makes a good PS thread does not necessarily
a good website make

My reaction to this thread: who did what with the what now?

quasimodem 2003-05-14 04:51:21 PM
1. Larry's Face website existed long before the Fark PS contest. I had nothing to do with that.

2. Nobody's making a dime of Larry's Face. Nobody has given any money, and I don't expect anybody to. I just wanted to make my brother look like a panhandler.

3. I only put copyright notices on pix that I created. No copyright notice is on anybody else's pic. I'm giving full credit to all submitted photos, with links if they want.

4. I want to put together a collection of some of the best ones from Fark. I am contacting each artist and getting permission. I would not use somebody's photo without permission.

5. Larry and I were interviewed by All Things Considered this afternoon, in which I said great things about Fark and the brilliant, witty people who participate in the contests. The segment was held because of length, and I have been promised that it *will* run. I'll keep Drew advised.

6. For the grumblers, what's the beef? It isn't for money, just to tease my brother. Nothing more and nothing less. For those Farkers who posted hostility and profanity to the Larry's Face site, thank you very much. Anybody with a complaint or comment can flame me directly at fark (at) brucegoldfarb (dot) com.

EepahJones 2003-05-14 04:59:11 PM
Is it true that there is a Farker on the NPR staff? It seems like every non-political story I hear (and I listen twice daily) and then some is something I read on Fark less than a few days before. Has anyone else noticed this?

I would also like to note that I have a good friend who is general manager of a group of (commercial, as opposed to public) radio stations in Louisiana who says that the dj's use fark.com for their show prep quite often. Hmmm...

Ku_No_Ichi [TotalFark] 2003-05-14 05:00:55 PM

Thanks. I wasn't trying to be a tool about it.
I should have known that Fark wouldn't OK the link if it wasn't kosher.
I guess I've just seen or heard one too many radio stations / newspaper / websites using Fark content (Photoshops, Headlines, etc.) and it just struck something when I didn't see a link to Fark or a mention on the site..

Did anyone hear the interview?
How'd it go?

Ku_No_Ichi [TotalFark] 2003-05-14 05:07:58 PM
Quasimodem,
I took so long writing my post that I didn't see yours.
I apologize if what I said sounded like an attack, I really didn't mean it that way.

eddie_irvine 2003-05-14 05:28:56 PM
That site totally sucks.

NickBurns 2003-05-14 05:47:36 PM
I think Robin Quivers takes her news stories from Fark.

No offense taken. The "story" is that some months ago I had to learn some rudimentary PS to make a logo for a project I'm doing with a group of writers. I needed a test to try out stuff, and found this goofy picture of my brother. Another brother, an ad man, wrote some captions, and we laughed our asses off. I made a little web page to tease Larry and forgot about it. It was just an amusement for family and friends, silly photos that I added to now and then.

A couple weeks ago it was mentioned somewhere, and then mentioned somewhere else, and before long people started sending me photos. Hits shot up to 30,000, then 60,000, then 100,000 a day. Then it was the subject of a Fark PS contest, and traffic went through the roof. I had to take it off my own web site and put it at LarrysFace.com.

The whole thing is just a cyber-riff, so ease up. Nobody's making any money. It's just a stupid, goofy thing that people seem to like. Larry didn't even ask for his 15 minutes. He's just a 40-something sales guy in the northeast US whose been made available for worldwide humiliation and will probably be recognized for the rest of his life. Better him than me.

I think Farkers will like the ATC segment, which is long. I was interviewed by co-host Robert Siegel from the studio of WYPR in Baltimore, with Larry on the phone. I plugged Fark and talked a bit about the PS phenomenon, and how I am as mystified as anybody about why the site exists at all. This will introduce PSing to a different audience. We discussed the Russians use of photoretouching to rewrite history, and had we had time I wanted to mention the apparently increasingly common PSing to trick up news photos.

Very funny stuff! I hope to catch the NPR interview.
