As I was stupid enough to go all Catholic and give up the Dew for Lent, I am *not* getting a kick out of this headline.

\luckily I believe Lent ends on Palm Sunday and not Easter, so it's only one more week.....

But will this new ruling make everything SUPER-RADICAL TO THE X-TREME?

This is important.

I'm not sure if anyone actually enjoys Mountain Dew.

Now I don't have to spend a bunch of money shipping my friends (real) Mountain Dew twice a year! Hooray!

CruJones 2010-03-20 09:32:31 PM
and they're "allowed" a can and a half a day? That actually seems higher than I would have expected.

I don't understand the cola vs. non-cola distinction though.

We had it here for a while as Dew Fuel.

Honestly, I think it tasted like shiat compared to the 'regular' Mountain Dew we have.

I always wondered what caffeinated Mt. Spew would be like.

I understand that it's way better with caffeine and even if it turns out that you don't like it much, hey at least it'll keep you from falling asleep at work.

There's soda without caffeine? What is the point? It's SUPPOSED to be a flavored sugar-and-caffeine delivery system, ever since they stopped putting cocaine in and gave up on the "it's medicine for bellyaches" routine.

Canadians have had Caffinated Mountain Dew in the form of "AMP" since 2001. By labeling it an "Energy Drink", the rules didn't apply. I'm not sure how AMP differs from the US version of Mountain Dew, but as far as I know, they're very similar.

Ikimasen 2010-03-20 09:44:20 PM
Well, shoot, good for them. What good is the Beer of Nerds without the caffeine? One of the worst shocks of my life was going to Ireland and finding out I couldn't get Mountain Dew. I drank about a million Dr Peppers while I was over there.

We have AMP in America, but it's different from regular Mountain Dew. It tastes more like an Mountain Dew flavored energy drink, and it has all the stuff like guarana and stuff you wouldn't find in regular Mountain Dew.

No, AMP and Mtn Dew Energy are 2 different things. AMP is a Red Bull-type drink, while Mtn Dew Energy is essentially relabeled US Mtn Dew.

This makes me happy that I've cut back heavily on the amount of soft drinks I drink. Seriously, go take a week or two without drinking any soda/pop/cola/whatever you call it and you'll realize when you drink it again just how loaded with sugar and crap it is.

Gets me caffeine from coffee, and me feel-good drink is beer.

Mt Dew is part of my low cost alternative to energy drinks. I spike a diet mt dew with caffeine pills. Fountain drinks work a little better than bottled as there is not quite so much explosive decarbonation when you add the caffeine. I never sleep anymore, but at least I am not paying three bucks a pop for Rockstar.

No - weak wine.

Even the LDS believe that we'll all sit down and drink some wine with the man, some day.

Until then, Diet Mt dew FTW

In Canada, the Cola drinks are the dark ones. The rule was that for a drink to have caffeine in it it had to be dark, so no added caffeine in any clear or light colored sodas.

As a Canuck, I have one thing to say:

Godammit.

Seriously, the "no caffeine in non-caffeinated beverages" law was an extremely good one. There is no goddamn reason to caffeinate fruit pop, or root beer, or what have you.

This also makes life for women prone to miscarriage even harder - caffeine is a known miscarriage risk - it used to be that you'd be safe with any non-cola (and not Barq's, since they somehow got through). Now the poor ladies will have to check through every bloody can?

We've really got to start elected inanimate objects into power.

I believe the rule was it had to be brown. So cola, root beer, dr pepper. Sounds silly, I know.

As a Canadian who doesn't care about caffeine but hates when companies don't bother bringing in their wonderful foreign drinks to Canada simply because of some stupid meddling law like this one, I say the following: Screw you and everything you believe in.

/IRN-BRU! IRN-BRU! IRN-BRU!
//Non Caffeinated Irn-Bru isn't as good.
///Don't want to drink a certain chemical? Try reading the farking labels, jackasses!
////My usual drink is caffeine-free diet Pepsi.
//too many slashies!

R.I.P. - The guarana was a nice touch - just hoping for some urban legend aphrodisiac buzz. I remember it tasting good too. 100 varieties of "Gamer Dew", yet no retro-Josta? Tis a shame.

Caffeine is the English spelling.

The French spelling is caféine.

Cafeine is probably a typo, although Subby might be Canadian and therefore have a hard time to remember which spelling is the English and which spelling is the French, not to mention which spelling is American and which spelling is British.

Théine was isolated from tea by Oudry in 1827, but it was later proven to be the same thing as caffeine. It was too late for Fanny Farmer's Boston School of Cooking cookbook though. She mentions both theine and caffeine.

Personally I think it is seriously wrong to put an addictive substance in your product if it isn't already there. I'm looking at you, Big Tobacco.

It's like putting the coke back into Dope(TM). Or wait, it's like putting the dope back into Coke(TM).

Actually, I thought that Mountain Dew already had caffeine in it. Well, I learned something about my country today.

Now I wish they'd stop it. I'd like to be able to drink more tea and less soda pop but I'm addicted to bubbles.

Really?

Here in the states there are varieties of each. Not a whole lot of homework involved, especially given the very limited population you're championing.

People like caffeine. Let them have it.

My Baloney Has No First Name 2010-03-20 11:42:19 PM
Kudos on trying to use the French spelling Subby, but you missed an é.
