This is whats wrong with our country.

Instead of caring about serious issues like health-care, economy, foreign relations, etc etc. These are the types of issues that they get all riled up about for either side.

There an individual in Colorado who one-ups all in the dog vs people category. The took and may still take a GPS to a park to record and post the co-ordinates of each individual dog poop pile.

Then there is that Israeli town doin the DNA thingy on the turds.

As someone who only very briefly was involved in a very minor political issue (several years ago) in a smallish town and recieved dozens of threatening emails (nice house, you home much? etc, etc) plus had dozens of craigslist posts posted defaming me which cost me a fair amount of business this isn't at all an irrational position to take.

A lot of folks are crazy as shiat and the anonimity of the net (coupled with it's unique ability to falsely defame someone very publically) makes speaking up about almost any issue when you live in a small or medium sized town a very risky proposition.

(Considerably less so if you live in NYC, LA, Chicago, etc where it would be lost in the noise.)

Er, well we've already got excellent free health care, our economy is recovering faster then many and far as I know we're still the most beloved country in the world.

RTFA. These people don't understand the concept of "fenced".

Fizics 2010-03-18 09:31:24 PM
People do not realize how menacing dogs can be and the need for leashes at all time. Last week, a neighbors Jack Russel terrier was barking frantically at my 12 year-old daughter, terrifying her because it was not on a leash. I immediately called Animal Control to have the dog euthanized because it may have been rabid. Unfortunately, they refused to do an on-the-spot euthanization so now I have to go to court to get this matter settled. It is a tremendous inconveinence.

Have covered/observed small town politics for over a decade. The people fearing this are not nuts. ESPECIALLY since it has to do with animals, which in my experience is always the biggest, most divisive stuff out there. I've seen people stalked, called at all hours, houses and cars vandalized, anonymous letters alleging illegal deeds, and more...

And over dumbass smalltown bullshiat like this.

Seriously, in my experience small town politics are much, much worse than the big stuff. I wouldn't out my name on the record, either.

This.

Animal person crazy (on either side of a different issue) is a whole different kind of crazy.

Never mind the retaliation that the people might have been subject to - folks could very easily see their pets poisoned, shot, etc.

That is right Khazar, 2 out of every 10 dogs is vicious. People need to learn to recognize the signs. If a dog menaces you with growling or frantic barking then the only safe alternative is immediate euthanization or heavy fines on the owner. I was traumatized as a child during a vicious attack from a Pommeranian, people may think that's amusing but those dogs are incredibly vicious when being aggressive and need to be leashed at all times.

If they're fenced in with other dog people, who cares? The problem solves itself. Those not worried about getting ravaged by loose dogs can take that risk. Those that don't want to can stay outside the area. I don't see the debate. Sounds like people just want to be control freaks.

Strike that comment. Someone above said the area was fenced. It's not. My new stance is the people who bring dogs to run free need a license issued after an test of advanced canine knowledge and handling skills. I'd be worried about redneck idiots bringing their half-domesticated crazy ass dogs to the park thinking it'd be fine.

This.
Although it has more to do with people not training their dogs than keeping them on a leash. Its annoying when I'm out for a run and I have to go around or over your dog because it wants to jump on me. You shouldn't let your dog do that for the same reasons you don't let your kids harass random strangers. It's just annoying and rude.

Okay, fine, put a GIANT farking fence around the area, big enough to encompass a bunch of "wild" area and be done with it.

/Or if you're afraid of getting bitten by dogs, stay the fark away from a "leash free" dog park.
//rocket science?

NannyStatePark: Many of these animal people are insane zealots.

Understatement of the year.

Over the years I've dealt with every issue you can imagine, from new Wal-marts coming to town to murders to political corruption to gigantic tax hikes and school issues and more. People get fired up, debate loudly, etc. But ...

NOTHING has EVER generated the fervor as animal issues. EVER. Recently, a town we cover decided to draft an ordinance that would stop people from feeding stray cats.

HOLY SHIAT you'd think they legalized the Holocaust.

I like animals just fine, but the fervent animal people are like Pat Robertson wrapped up in a tortilla of Scientology and baked in Nazi Youth soup.
