This is what happens when Internet Tough Guys forget to remember that playing a Tough Guy in Real Life can be dangerous. It's important to keep the two personas--Internet Tough Guy and Real World--complete distinct. It's painfully obvious:

Internet Tough Guy: "I'm a huge social networker and stuff so if you don't like pay me $200,000 I'll bring the company down through spam emails."

Real World
: Fark, I'm in jail.

Other examples:

Internet Tough Guy: "Trust me when I say this. This stuff is child's play. That so called "torture" is nothing, NOTHING compared to what I would do to those animals to gather information that would either
A: lead to an arrest of another scumbacg animal terrorist coward
Or
B: lead to info that would stop an attack.

Real World: *pees on leg*

Internet Tough Guy: Still wondering what happened to their bikini tops...honest none of us, that have been @ sea for 8 months, even thought to look...honest. We're from the Gov't & are here to help you. Yes, that's a gun in my pocket & we're happy to see you. Ma'am do you mind if we take a picture. Why yes it is chilly today.

Real World: *runs away*

Internet Tough Guy: I'd go for that. Iraq can be contained by the Army. Let the Core finish up in Afghanistan.

Real World
: That was my wife.

And so on.

A friends 22 Y.O. daughter just filed bankruptcy on $43K. I'm 46, with a car, and a house, and credit card debt. I don't owe $43K.

Young people are idiots. The fact that you're 46 makes you at least three times as smart as the average 22 yo.

IMHO (as I just posted in another thread, by coincidence) we need to educate kids on how to manage their finances.

JohnBigBootay 2010-03-09 03:49:09 PM
And that, farkers, is what you get for buying a 'universal life' policy. No thank you insurance people - I'll take the insurance and do my investing on my own. Hint: the projection they show you on those cash value investment policies is neither guaranteed nor reasonable to expect. What those policies do buy is big boats for brokers. It's shocking to me they're even legal.

His company going under is unlikely to affect him to that extent.

Today, maybe. But I think it's been proven to those who bought houses 5 years ago that the place to have been is Florida.

I'd agree, though to be fair it depends how fast those six million are being sent. An hour? A day? A week?

But yeah. New York Life has something like 10,000 employees, so they probably have a pretty good setup. And I don't think his facebook army is likely to have control over a large spambot net.

He allegedly targeted the company after becoming "dissatisfied" with the performance of his own universal life insurance policy.

How is a man allowed to get $1.2 million in debt who, even though he works for an insurance company, is still dumb enough to invest in universal life insurance? That should have been an instant red flag to any lender.

I could be wrong and misinformed (I know, right?), but shouldn't he be dead to find out how he his relatives find out how his life insurance performs?

I'm probably missing something.

DIGITALgimpus 2010-03-09 04:38:15 PM
Pro tip: Unless you have a contract stating otherwise, your ability to speak of your employer pretty much limited to "I was employed as ____ from ___ to ____ and left under ____ conditions".

Anything else is opening yourself up for a lawsuit, or potentially being accused of a crime.

Lots of folks today don't realize how little you can really say about your company. Even speaking good of it can essentially open you up to lawsuits if your not authorized to speak about such things. Speaking engagements become difficult too.

Social networking like the internet in general just abstracts things and makes people do dumb things.

Someone I know was doing a few speaking engagements as a "senior ___ from a large _[industry]_ company". His company couldn't object since he wasn't prohibited from speaking in general and didn't use the company name or any company property. He was simply an industry expert... they were upset he wasn't pushing the company name and promoting them (helps to recruit in certain industries). He wanted $$ to start speaking as an employee and compensation for his personal time that would benefit the company... They balked. He was right for refusing. His time, no reason to give company anything.

So let's follow the bouncing ball, shall we? He racks up 1.2 million in debt, checks his universal life policy and decides he doesn't like what he sees, decides to try to extort $200,000 from the company that holds his policy by threatening to send a bunch of spam their way, which they more than likely have filters to block.

/Wile E. Coyote is amused by your shenanigans.
