What a large python may look like

This is Florida. Why steal a python from the zoo when you can just hit the swamps and find ones large enough to eat gators.

Because they're large enough to eat gators.

Sure, you can pet them, they are scaly, not slimy.

(unless you soak them in slime)

Pythons (and boas) actually make great pets. Just sayin'.

Is it an evil petting zoo?

Balchinian 2010-02-16 04:16:50 PM
Or was it a heavy petting zoo?

E's pining for the Everglades. He is an ex-python.

Of course they are, they're right after the porcupines and before the scorpions.

Kindergartners relieve zoo's budgetary woes.

It's Florida, after all, so I am betting this is the stolen python:

FTFA: "The snake was part of a petting zoo set up in a tent in a shopping center parking lot."

How in the world could someone possibly abscond with something that was so well protected?

Yeah aren't they actually pretty calm as long as they're fed and you're not actively trying to piss them off?

And what I am wondering, what kind of person exactly would TRY to piss off a giant snake?

Only shapely gals need worry.

Most Anacondas(relative of the python) don't want none unless you've got buns hun.

This shouldn't be surprising. In FL there are plenty of reptile farms that let kids come up and pet all manner of scaly critters.

TheRaven7 2010-02-16 05:17:03 PM
Pythons exist as pets outside of Florida, I'm sure.

Welcome to Florida.
Come for the heat, stay for the python.

No, it's a subplot in a Carl Hiaasen novel.

Yeah aren't they actually pretty calm as long as they're fed and you're not actively trying to piss them off?

Or unless they become confused about whether they're being fed, or whether you are food, or whether you might be trying to piss them off. An animal with a brain the size of a lima bean is pretty easy to confuse.

And a 15'+ python can kill you before you can explain things to him.

Nothing against them, I've worked with boas and pythons and like'em fine, but big constrictors are not really practical pets. IMHO.

It's not a pet, it's part of a petting zoo. Bigass pythons are to petting zoos like the assembly line was to car factories. Instead of two to three kids on a goat you can fit 20 of the little shiats on one snake, it's simple economics.
