To be fair the guy could have had some kind of printing press rather than a printer. Alternatively he could have been making photo copies.

I could be wrong but this sounds a lot like the UCC people that do this all the time.. The book "cracking the code" explains this in more detail, and purports to claim why its legal (watch though its based on false tenants).

Priceless! I am sure you meant tenets instead of tenants. :)

Those damn false tenants! I told them to pay rent!

I like axioms, myself. As a math geek, I appreciate constructs built upon axioms and don't appreciate those built on shaky ground...or false "tenants". >=)

Oh? Or perhaps YOUR definition of "cool" is the problem, or perhaps what you believe to be my definition of "cool" is incorrect.

The important thing is that it is tied to the word "job". As a phrase, it is mildly reminiscent of an oxymoron. However, there is sound reasoning behind my bold statement.

Math professor is a cool job.
proof:

1) I can choose the vast majority of my work hours. I am only in the classroom less than 20 hours per week, and the rest of the time (prep, grading, etc.) does not have to be arranged in a typical 8-5 setting (I prefer late nights).

2) Very interesting colleagues, they being the source of the majority of my intellectual stimuli (also include NPR).

3) Cheap meals in the cafeteria (with only mildly questionable food quality).

4) Teaching panders to my personality and ego (I like to be the center of attention and the authority figure on a topic).

5) Some students make the job rewarding (of course, others do not, but this category is a net positive).

What else could one ask for? A competitive salary perhaps? Well...at least the benefits are good.

VERY COOL

The problem with this sort of crime (printing fake money/documents) is that once you start you know you'll keep going and it's going to sound like a big deal when you're done. It doesn't take too many $225k notes to be printed to start adding up to a big sum. Like if they searched his house a day later it probably would have twice as much.

Basically, probably no counterfeiter stops after the first couple $20 bills ...

Anyway, since they're going after him, I hope they also go after the Fed. Someone's gotta stop those guys from printing more money.

yogaFLAME [TotalFark] 2010-02-10 02:03:14 AM
That reminds me, what ever happened to those Japanese blokes who got arrested somewhere in Europe with approximately one gazillion dollars in fake bonds?

dondanz 2010-02-10 02:04:13 AM
How stupid must this guy be? I just want to ask him what he thought was going to happen after his funny-money note got passed around?

(A) It would never be discovered because he was able to find the secret flaw in the United States monetary/treasury/banking system.

(B) Somebody would figure it out but would be too embarrassed to admit they made a mistake and so wouldn't trace it back to him and instead, just write it off.

(C) Some kind of misunderstanding of our legal system that once its accepted by the seller, they cannot come back to him, it's just the seller's problem.

(D) Crack is whack.

What I can do is quantify the 7F reading. To me they're just a little bit off, what I can do on that is run a pap smear, and that should even it out.
