I can never get enough articles about Jenny McCarthy. Every time you think she's dug beneath the barrel right down to bedrock, she finds a new opening and goes even deeper.

I think the whole vaccination scare got so much traction because all of the women who put career ahead of having a family just can't deal with the thought that it was their old, shriveled up womb that caused the autism.

Must have been the shots! The shots are to blame!

I fully support the idea that old broads shouldn't have babies. Once you're 35, it's time to start planning for grandmotherhood.

If you visit shakesville, a relatively well known and popular feminist site (whose founder regularly writes op-eds for the Guardian), they are up in arms about the scientists and reporters who hate mothers who studied and reported on this.

(Bonus: they are also upset with Michelle Obama's efforts to stop childhood obesity because it's just more hatred of fat people.)

I love learning slang words for breasts. Czech slang for breasts: kozy / (goats).

So the joke I heard is how many rabbits can you fit in a bra? Well, if you can fit two goats in there...

I thought fathers age was also an important factor?

This won't stop the shiatbaggery coming from the antivaxxers though. If anything, they'll turn it around into a "Why are you blaming the mother?" attack against the researchers.

1) On the chance that that strechted out coont really is in the article I'm not going to click it.

2) "Study shows older women have higher risk of having (insert medical condition here) children". It's a fact. Is there any medical condition that doesn't have increased risk with an older mother?

Feminist sites like Jezebel and XX Factor are forming an echo chamber to rival freerepublic, but instead of paranoid gun nuts it's mostly sophomores at Oberlin.

Have kids at a younger age, that way you avoid increased risk of many disorders if you wait, and you actually have the energy to raise them.

Did you study from the Jenny McCarthy school of medical science?

Kesherz 2010-02-09 05:51:27 PM
Read this the other day. The scientists do state that this doesn't account for the rapid increase in autism cases, but it does make a big impact on it.

But this doesn't mean anything to the anti-vaccinationists. They're convinced the retraction of Wakefield's paper is a "big pharma" conspiracy, and nothing will persuade them otherwise.

Ova form in utero, so if I start counting my age at my date of birth, my eggs are a bit older than that. Those biatches already turned 30!

"A 2007 Kaiser Permanente study conducted in California reported that autism risk increased with both the mother's and father's age."

77% of the cases were vaccinated? I have a feeling some vaccine maker has gotten a call to see what they had in those bottles.

Either that, or that strain of mumps has mutated and we need a new vaccine.

Right, they form when you form, therefore, they can never be older than you... unless somehow, you received transplanted ovaries from someone older than you.

If you count your age by your birth date, then sure, you are almost 1 year younger than your eggs. But you get my point.

Sheila_McSly 2010-02-09 05:57:35 PM
The study also shows that children with an older father (40+) and a younger mother (in her twenties) have a much higher risk of autism-spectrum disorders. So the clock is ticking for you too, guys.

Absolutely, if you're financially and emotionally stable enough to handle it. I had my two kids in my mid-20s, because we could afford it and felt "ready"... Looking back at how much work it was, I can't imagine having enough energy to start over with a newborn now, and I'm only in my early 30s.

Plus, this way I'll presumably be young enough to spend years enjoying (and spoiling) my grandkids when the time comes! I feel a little sad for people in their 40s who are just getting started as parents. They'll be in their 60s when junior graduates from high school. So much for enjoying the empty nest (and spending the inheritance on world travel and fine scotch)....
