I understand some of you are obligated by contract to disagree with this, but would a nation where everyone spoke the same language really be a bad thing? Imagine if we all understood each other. Language is just another barrier.

If there was a school in China that was 42% American and a bunch of them complained they could only speak Chinese, how many of you dissenters would be in here saying 'Rah Rah Go America! Make them speak English to you!', because despite what you may think, a lot of hispanics do turn this into a nationality issue.

And to those saying 'this isn't the way to get them to learn it', I disagree. Learning a language is a biatch and the vast majority of people don't do it unless they have to. That's just human nature. Acquiescing encourages non-english speakers to NEVER learn english.

If every school and public organization did this, everyone would have to learn one language. Other than putting out non-english speakers for a while as they had to learn the language, how would this be a negative thing?

A lot of the disagreement seems to stem from the logic 'well a redneck I know agrees with this, so I am against it'. Once you get past that, this is just common sense.

I disagree with your assertion. Plenty of ELL kids learn English by the time they graduate. Their parents, not so much.

Remember, every other wave of immigrants got yelled at for not integrating fast enough. We're just a bunch of generations down from the Irish, Italians, etc who came over. Spanish speaking families will get around to it in a generation or two.
