Homemade beer is the best.

"You've got to love it. It isn't about the money. It's about the beer," White said.

May God bless you and keep you, Mr. White.

irockalot 2003-04-06 10:08:22 PM
i never enjoyed beer until i had it non-manufactured.

"We don't need to do market research," Hicks said. "Just put out a good product."

That's not what those 3 Budweiser frogs said.

Alfador 2003-04-06 10:09:33 PM
I know i'm in the minority here, but beer really doesn't taste all that great.

Kudos to this young man, however. being an entrepreneur takes guts.

diadelsuerte 2003-04-06 10:10:49 PM
mmm I just thought of a great beer place in tampa that I once went to... I think it's name was Hops or House of Hops or something... whatever it was they had a microbrew right in the bar and it was FANTASTIC.. now only if I could get back down there...

a1t3r3g0 2003-04-06 10:12:46 PM
When I went to the Bahamas they have this beer there called Kalik. I haven't tried too many beers, but I thought it was pretty damn good.

a1t3r3g0 2003-04-06 10:17:44 PM
If you're ever in the Bahamas I suggest you give it a try.. Here is some brief info on it

I second the motion on "Hops" in Tampa. Yum.

Why didn't I think of that?

Aqueduct_Pocket 2003-04-06 10:27:24 PM
Now here's a headline that I'd find interesting:

Man drinking beer since 18 turns hobby into career.

That would be a man I could learn something from.

hahaha!!11 2003-04-06 10:28:00 PM
He can make all the beer he wants. What a gift. I need to buy one of those make your own beer kits.

Malicoire_ 2003-04-06 10:28:28 PM
Alabama man arrested for underage manufacture of alcohol.

Nostrafarkus 2003-04-06 10:30:13 PM
Homeade beer does rock. Only bad part was, as soon as I get a batch done, all my friends would *myseriously* show up.

My favorite recipe is called Bucksnort Ale. It gives you a righteous case of the wind, but it's oh so good.

productiveslacker 2003-04-06 10:34:25 PM
can masterbation be a career?

roxtar 2003-04-06 10:36:53 PM
In Florida, no age limitation on buying your own homebrew equipment or ingredients. Consumption and purchase of the finished product is all the law covers down here. And to anyone that hasn't had homebrewed beer before you definately owe it to yourselves to try it out, it really is a lot of fun and the beer is MUCH better too.
It's much better when you brew it yourself.

hubiestubert [TotalFark] 2003-04-06 10:39:26 PM
Worked for one of the first micro-breweries in the East when I came to Mass. Head Brewer loved beer, and started as a dishwasher at the place. In a year he'd made the move to the back as an assistant, and the year before I got there he had taken over the operation. Between Germany and this fella, I'm pretty much ruined on domestic beer. The four years I cooked for these folks I got a chance to sample some of the best beer of my life, and the thing that I always liked about beer people is that even the beer wanks just want to drink the stuff. Not swish it around and spit, just drink. Beer wanks at the different festivals were a common hazard, discussing notes of this, hints of that, but at least they like to drink the stuff, not just collect it and leave it on the shelf to appreciate.

Drink local brew--well that is unless you've got a crappy local brewery. Even then, check back every year. Nice thing about brewers, they like to tinker, and some of my favorite brews now I started off hating when their vats were young, and they fine tuned things into good stuff after a while.

Semper Inebrieatus...

triphammer 2003-04-06 10:46:57 PM

1/2 bottle of Coors light + fill rest with Vodka = Kidney Punch. Perfect for when you swallow poison and need to vomit fast.

I turned 21 4 days ago - so I ought to know.

OtisWild 2003-04-06 10:47:03 PM
When I grow up I wanna be just like Alabama Man!!!

I am not much of a beer person, but I want samples of this dude's beer, heh heh.

I wish him the best of luck trying to take down the man (Budwiser and his brothers...)

Well, that's the big secret, isn't it? Find something you like to do and get folks to pay you for doing it.

Man making beer since 18...

Isn't he entitled to a break?

/obvious!

joe_charismatic 2003-04-06 11:03:51 PM
All I have to say is good for him, but big whoop-di-do. There are many folks who have done this, and they do it well. This is not all that uncommon, and certainly not anything new.

assmosis 2003-04-06 11:09:44 PM
You keep making it and we'll keep drinking it. A friend of mine, Vince, has been home brewing for a long time and just got hired on at

Saint Arnold Brewing Company
here in Houston. Ahh, the dream is alive!

dragunsflame 2003-04-06 11:13:05 PM
Lots of people do this! Hasn't he seen The Drew Carey Show???

Sincityrugby: I agree

Grub 2003-04-06 11:15:21 PM

we used to make our own beer and wine in high school. and got sick everytime. had a blast.

abrakadabrakoff 2003-04-06 11:22:05 PM

Yhippa 2003-04-06 11:32:29 PM
I was in Tampa today. It was 80 and I was on the beach having.

In Richmond it is now 50. Sigh...

Young_Fart 2003-04-06 11:38:41 PM
The Southeast remains a tough craft brew market, he said, because consumers have been "brainwashed by major brewing companies" that have made them brand loyal.

As a local, I can tell you he means Budweiser. Average Joe thinking down here is that if you can't buy it at Wal-Mart, you don't need it. Exception can be made however for NASCAR-endorsed products.

I_farked_yo_mama 2003-04-06 11:42:53 PM
Alfador, Beer(at least Black Label) has a nice dank taste that I enjoy very much. plus, Black Label is really cheap. like $2.35 a six pack.

I really need to try some kind of Microbrew. Anybody know of anything available in Chicago/northwest Indiana that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I know that there's a Great Lakes Winery in Whiting, but the nearest microbrewery that I've heard of is somewhere over by Portage, and that's like 45 Minutes+ away from me. News on anything over by Hammond/EC would be appreciated.

/If you're not from Northwest Indiana you won't know what the hell the second part of this post is about.

lucidavid 2003-04-07 12:04:09 AM
I'm deprived and curious. What does homemade beer taste like as opposed to the manufactured ones?

TheBigZ 2003-04-07 12:07:36 AM
Arrogant Bastard Ale: This is an aggressive beer. You probably won't like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophisitication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory - maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it's made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you're mouthing your words as you read this.

From the back of the Winking Lizard's Glass of the Month, Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale (which is pretty good), and overall a cool glass (almost as sweet as january's Newcastle Brown Ale glass). The Winking Lizard has made me into a beer snob, and I can't go back, I won't.

Young_Fart 2003-04-07 12:13:22 AM
...it's like college, but without the annoying liberals.

Once I got through my core curriculum, I didn't see many liberals. Turns out most engineers are conservative because, well, we can do the math.

Grub 2003-04-07 12:15:36 AM
Lucidavid: a well brewed homebrew has a freshness that anything in a can or bottle from the store cannot duplicate. Also, you can brew your own to your own taste and not rely on some billion dollar company to feed you something that they think will be ok to a large enuff group of people that they can make a nice profit.

Then again, a poorly made homebrew is worse than a King Cobra 40.
