Well that's what I herd. But hay, I could be wrong. Maybe I shouldn't have stampeded to a conclusion. But there must be a lot of mad cows by now. I better quit before I get in a stew.

I don't know why people think this is something to laugh at. Those poor animals are trapped and are in a state of abuse. As a vegetarian (10 years) I am pretty offended that people can take this kind of suffering and make silly puns about it and laugh.

These animals are suffering terribly and people on the internet think it's hilarious, but once you become a better person through a meat-free life, you begin to realize what terrible people "meat-eaters" are.

This is why I am sooo glad I am no longer an on call claims adjuster. I have had more than my share of getting called out to truck wrecks in East Buttfark, IA at 2AM in January when the temps were -20°F, the wind chill was -30°F and snow was blowing in a full blizzard.

I never got one with live cattle, but I did have to sit guard on a tractor/trailer of hanging beef that was stuck in the median from 8 PM to 7 AM one nasty winter.

For starters, yes they are suffering and that's terrible. Animals of any kind needlessly suffering is always a horrible thing. Hell, especially if they're bred for meat, badly treated animals give crap meat. For seconds, scientific studies show that your bone density is going down (4% for vegetarians, 7% for vegans). Which is why I will NEVER give up meat, I like my bone density as high as I can keep it. For thirds, unless you are a dietitian familiar with my diet, you are not allowed to mouth off about how I eat, or how anyone else eats, because you aren't medically qualified and calling us terrible people for our eating choices makes you a raging douche. Have a nice day.

As for roll overs, one happened earlier today about fifteen minutes up the highway. A flatbed carrying rolled steel jackknifed and lost his load. He went into the median, the rolls of steel wandered off, causing two other semi trucks to wreck, and according to my brother cutting one of those truck's trailers in three segments. Needless to say the highway was a parking lot.

/probably easier to round up than cows though
//uppity vegans/vegetarians piss me off

Fizics 2010-01-08 03:47:31 AM
I'm not worried about bone density because vegans get their nutrients from more "cruelty-free" sources than meat-eaters and those who consume animal by-products.

But what is truly disturbing is the fact that these people don't realize the damage they are doing, not only to their bodies, but to society itself by consuming so many animals. I was at my Pro-Vegan (We respect all life even "meat-eaters") meeting and we were astonished as a group at the blase' attitude that so many "meat-eaters" display at the mention of animal suffering. These are the same people on Fark who post pictures of cute kittens and get so outraged at the treatment of one dog but will righteously defend cruelty to other animals.

I just wish these people would wake up and see the harm they are doing themselves and nature itself. Goddess bless.

That is exactly why I drive down the highway and get out of my truck and spray paint a white circle around every dead animal I see. I then drive the same route the next day and pick up every dead animal that is not in a White circle, knowing that it is fresh.

I then make a stew and feed the homeless

I hate to be a Negative Nelly but I'm not sure I believe you actually eat "roadkill", but if you do, then you are disrupting the natural cycle by not allowing scavengers to feed and further disrupting the "food web".

As for the homeless, our group works with them directly by giving them "cruelty free" food and blankets if they agree to abide by our rules for living. Most find that a hot lentil soup is too tempting to resist!

Oh, a vegan vs. carnivore thread. This ought to be good.

Speaking of which, my sister's favorite meat is veal, but I have no idea how to grill it. Also, where the hell do you buy foi gras in this day and age? I owe her, big time.

Seifer_babe 2010-01-08 04:06:20 AM
What about the poor plants? Think about the cries of the carrots, for today is harvest day and to them this is the apocalypse!

You know, we are omnivores, made to eat both meat and plants. Us eating meat is no different than a lion or shark doing the same. Either way, an animal has to die. Life feeds on life feeds on life... Plants or animals, it's just the cycle of life and death. Deal with it, whether or not you chose to eat meat, someone else will.

I'm genuinely curious here. Do you differentiate between animals killed to manufacture commercial meat products and those killed through fair chase hunting?

Feeding the homeless disrupts the food-web too. Unless they can procure food they should be left to die and be fed upon by scavengers.

Also try not eating for a few days. I'm sure by then you'd find meat soup tempting, freak.

It's natural for animals to get hit by a car? I guess if the car is free range, maybe. When I was a kid you could still see free range wild cars. They were very shy and hard to see up close, but eventually they were all domesticated and got really fat.

Dang it I know Fizics is a troll and all but that part about road kill being part of the natural cycle made me laugh. I was thinking the same thing about how nature created all the roadways and cars and was wondering how the poor poor scavengers made due before nature invented cars and roads...

You know, just because we joke, Fizics, doesn't mean we don't care. Joking helps you cope. Even after 9/11 we ventured a few jokes at work just to break the tension. I do feel sorry for those poor cows, but we can't get to them. :(

Thank you Seifer, most people here seem very hostile when you point out their hypocrisy, they get very defensive, and it's the animals that suffer for it really. I mean I can shrug off all the derision but can these cattle? Can these cattle speak for themselves?

We try to help but sometimes it gets discouraging, just yesterday a homeless man threw away a perfectly good bowl of my homemade "Soy Ahoy!" after I told him he had to give up meat-eater ways. "Will work for food" my sweet Aunt Persephone!

Ok, Troll I'll bite. Just because a person may be homeless, doesn't mean they have to give up their dignity. If I suddenly found myself homeless and you came up to me offering vegan fare (which I'm sure is delicious), but only if I give up "my meat-eater ways" I would politely tell you to go fark yourself. For that is a price greater than any monetary price tag you could have placed on it. Its the same as if you offered a prime rib dinner for free but I had to convert to Scientology to get it, not gonna happen.

StephenHawkingsVoicebox 2010-01-08 07:25:53 AM
We all know Fizics is a troll but somehow I can't not post...A homeless person would NEVER throw away a bowl of any food. He would have said "yeah yeah sure I will give up my meat eating ways" then gobble that soup down.

Then he would go to the next church/shelter and eat a bowl of beef stew or some hotdogs or eggs of fish or whatever they were serving telling them "Yeah yeah I will be catholic" "Sure you want me to sit thru a lecture on how I am farked up" as long as I get fed or have a bed for the night I am anything you want me to be" Short of you raping me or asking for homosexual favors...

That said, I would hope that they at least tried to get a vet and a couple of cops in there at the earliest opportunity to put those poor animals down. The ones that weren't killed in the crash probably froze to death with multiple broken limbs. Sounds fun.
