I read her books in undergrad. She was one of my first real looks at radical feminist theory. I found her work to be fascinating, and when I went to grad school at Duke (it sucked), she was a speaker. After her hour of nothing but solid, non-stop misoandry, she finished up and held a question and answer session DURING WHICH MEN WERE NOT ALLOWED TO ASK QUESTIONS. I walked out and never picked up another book by her. I've never had my respect for someone evaporate so instantaneously.

So I guess my feelings can be summed up with a heartfelt "Well...Bye!"

TFA: She took great delight in castigating the "eight deadly sins of the fathers": processions, professions, possession, aggression, obsession, assimilation, elimination and fragmentation. "Laugh out loud," she urged, "at their pompous penile processions."

I LOL'd.

I've actually attempted to read her book Quintessence, purely for entertainment value. It was ostensibly a work of fiction, the basic theme of which was "Gee, wouldn't it be swell if all the men died?"

Suffice to say, I'm none to broken up about her passing, though condolences to any relatives and close friends.

Kind of like how women were regarded until the 70s? Poor you.

There are such amazing parallels between a middle-aged upper-class white male Christian in America and a woman.

Wait, no, there aren't.

Why don't we just forget about fighting the phallocracy for a few hours and go have a good time? Right??

Hey hey. Ho ho.

Feel the butthurt.

Mary Daly did more to, dare I say, "empower" and "liberate" women than anyone in history, including any single suffragette.

The reason she restricted many of her lectures to women, only, was because she was routinely subjected to ad hominem attacks as the basis for argument against her theories and she knew how to fight fire with fire.

/Wham bam, thank you, Ma'am.

I agree. Personally, as a privileged, wealthy white American male, I have to say that I see insufficient acceptance for my opinion - after all, I have unique insight into exactly what it's like to be an oppressed minority. Why, do you realize that just the other day, a cabbie didn't get out to open the door for me?! And I haven't seen a television program in ages that didn't have people like me in more than three or four starring roles. What about number five? What about number FIVE!?!
