I'll bet his teacher, mom and Santa warned him that if her got that spiffy trail bike for Christmas he'd just impale himself on a fence.

The star picket missed him? So it's like a Brett Favre fence?

And who let this 12-year old out of the house? Kids should not be out of the house unless they're on the way to some supervised event. Supervised by ADULTS. And they'd better not forget to put on sunscreen.

If a trail bike is a British term for mountain bike then it's just a bummer of an accident. If a trail bike is this: aus-shop.com
Which we Americans refer to as a trail bike, then OUCH! He should have had some supervision! Had one when I was a kid - YZ125. Yeah, I am old. :)

When a kid is riding a motorized vehicle, all the supervision in the world will not prevent a fence-bashing. Things simply happen too fast.

/had various motorized vehicles from age 11

I had a 13-year-old cousin nearly die while riding a 4-wheel ATV. Ran into a barbed wire fence, even while on adult supervision as her dad and teen friend were riding along with her. Luckily, she survived even with her trachea damaged and the crash occurring in the countryside.

This is an interesting story for Christmas day. Every year on Christmas my mother tells us the story of how she got a bike as a present one year. She immediately went out for a ride to try it out and totally wiped out so badly that she needed to be rushed to the hospital for stitches.

/cool story bro
//Merry Christmas

Any reason you Americans insist on motoring everywhere? Just WALK.

Agree with your statement overall. However, in this case, they were out having fun, riding ATVs.

Our society has evolved with cars on the mind, not thinking about building cities for pedestrians, unfortunately. I enjoyed walking and using public transport in Europe, Asia, and Australia.

But, like the US, Australians need cars to access the Outback. So automobiles, in some form and/or fashion, are needed to access things where public transportation can't reach.

/And sometimes, it rains or snows, so cars make travel infinitely more enjoyable.

Riding an ATV/dirt bike/mountain bike is generally not for 'transportation', but for fun.

So is walking. You know, actually see where you are? Cuz if it's just for fun, go to a freaking amusement park where your precious snowflake can't drive into a fence.

So the only two possible values of 'fun' are:
1. going for a walk, or
2. the fully manufactured experience, wait in line for an hour, insanely overpriced and oversugared food, that is the modern amusement park

Gotcha.

ouch

i'm lucky to be alive, i'm not going to give this kid any shiat. at least our christmases were usually quite cold and snowy so bike riding is/was usually at a minimum.

although my brother and i did ride our new bikes on one christmas day back in the very early seventies, possibly even late sixties, and it had just got done with a nasty freezing rain. we were incredibly stupid and are very lucky to be alive. going downhill was fine, trying to get back up was another story.

Some years later, when i had my first trail bike (US motorcycle for trail riding and street legal), i was riding around on the day after a christmas snow storm on the freshly plowed streets in my residential neighborhood. it was a blast, then i got pulled over, just as i pulled into my driveway. cop was incredulous that anybody would be out in the snow on a motorcycle. I used to go pedal bike riding in the snow, so I was used to it.

haven't done that in many, many years.

When the average 13 year old weighs 20 stone, that's just not practical.

Besides she needs the carrying rack on the back to carry her inhaler, ritalin and antidepressants.

When I was a kid I had an old, rusty metal 1-speed bike. I was about 9, was at a campground with my extended family, and there was this gorge that looked more than rideable. My older cousins both went without a problem, and of course as I go I lose control and bust my ass.

The bike handle actually stuck in me, and there was blood farking EVERYWHERE.

Good times.

One time when I was 8 or 9ish my cousin and I were farking around near my grandmas old shed. Long story short he fell of the roof and ended up with a nail through his scrotum. He now has two children so I guess he won in the end.

\terrifying story, bro.

I learned how to fly at a very young age when I learned that the ancient bicycle with reverse pedaling for brakes didn't handle going down a hill in a forest and hitting rocks.

I also learned that I had a very hard head when coming to a sudden stop using a tree.

I ended up with a nice circular scrape on my forehead, my mom screamed when she saw me, but aside some skin roughed up by the bark, I was fine, didn't even bother with hospital or anything.
