Perhaps, Subby, it's because at the time of posting there were only about 8 reviews?

That's awesome, especially when you factor in that 87% of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes are worth as much as rotten tomatoes.

I read one review for Avatar written by a black critic and he was going off about a white man's zionist movement?

Dude, do not judge RT.com by Armond White. Even if metacritic is better.

And subby, Transformers 2 had a fresh rating until the mainstream critics started to put their two cents in. Not saying that will happen, just saying why don't we wait for a national publication to run something before we start saying it's good.

I see movies for free, so I'll see it if it's worth my time. But if I didn't work at a movie theater, I'd want to be sure my $10 a ticket would be worth it.

Robert Downey, Jr. playing a sarcastic drug addict. Hmm...seems like a stretch but, OK.

Guy Richie:

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,
Snatch,
Revolver (Not the best but good)
Real RocknRolla

Granted he hit a touch patch when he was married to Madonna and did Swept Away...but she's a succubus! Sucks talent out of every star she's banging.

Damn straight I'm gonna go see this flick.

And the much redeemed Robert Downey Jr.

I don't know if I like Robert Downey Jr's mumbly mouth version of English in the role of Holmes, but it looks like a fun movie.

Meh. I'll most likely enjoy it for what it is, but as a Holmes aficionado I wont be satisfied until we can dig up and clone Jeremy Brett. To date, Brett was the best portrayal of Holmes from the original stories.

If there was a fine for farting of exactly 10 dollars, I would still eat extra spicy chilli colorado burrito's for lunch.

Seriously, is 10 dollars that much money to get all butt hurt about? What are you guys, 12?

Not a true nerd but the explosions on the trailor kinda turned me off. Doyle wrote literature, not car chases.

I'll admit it looks silly, but no sillier than Holmes going up against Cthulhu or Dracula or Jack the Ripper or any number of unorthodox Sherlock stories that I admittedly enjoy. Holmes was Doyle's cash cow; mindless pap designed to entertain the brainless masses. I've read every original Sherlock story multiple times and love the character to death, but I'm not going to pretend it's high literature and anything more than a Victorian version of CSI.

It IS high literature. And this garbage insults it. And insults the intelligence of the audience, though they apparently are looking for people with really low IQs with all of the special effects bullshiat they are pulling.

The people writing reviews for national publications are exactly the same as "independent" reviewers: they're just people with an opinion.

What you really should do is go back and look at reviews of films you liked, see what reviews also liked it. Then look at their other reviews of films you've seen. Both ones you like and ones you don't.

The point I'm trying to make is, anyone can be a reviewer. The trick is not to look at what RT's percentage is, but find reviewers that have the same taste in film that you do. Go by their opinions as their reviews will let you know whether you will like it or not.

If you say so.

Gunther: Wait, what?

Neil Gaiman's "A Study in Emerald" puts Sherlock Holmes in a Lovecraftian universe. He's not fighting against Cthulhu or anything, but it is interesting if you're into that kind of thing. It's available in PDF form on his website: Link

Also, Roger Zelazny's "A Night in the Lonesome October" features Holmes, as well as Jack the Ripper, Dr. Frankenstein and his monster, the Wolfman, Rasputin, and others as they take sides in a plot to awaken one of the Old Ones. One of my favorite books to read near Halloween.

Um, yeah, that is not Doyle. I love Zelazny and I think Holmes would be great in the Amber Universe but even Amber wasn't full of of shiat blowing up.
