Its pretty much that Irish,Scottish and Welsh people have about 10% redheads compared to the normal populations having 1-2%. Its a way to be racist and not be called a bigot. Outside of the occasional lapse like the reign of Elizabeth the First, English people have always disliked redheads/gingers. Protestant witch hunters used to use red hair as one of the signs someone was a witch. An 19th century English scientist wrote about how Welsh,Scottish and Irish people having red hair meant they were closer evolutionary to Cro-Magnons than English people were. So it was okay to be bigoted towards them since they weren't quite human.

Famous historical Redheads: King David, Achilles(fictional, I know), Mary Magdalene,Winston Churchill, Richard the Lionheart, Thomas Jefferson, Napoleon, Malcolm X and more.
