That's pretty funny. For those clicking, the bizarre temperature (which is "affected by the cold"!) is in the "weather box" on the right.

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2009-12-09 10:47:57 AM
The wind chill is only -34, presumably -34F.

Negative temperature has a well-defined meaning in some branches of physics. It means you're hotter than infinity.

ZAZ: The wind chill is only -34, presumably -34F.

-34f is very very close to -34c. The two scales cross at -40.

unlikely

They might have meant -34K.

Currently -599 f, according to the 9news webpage.

Just poked my head outside to see, and yeah, they might well have meant that.

-617 now.

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2009-12-09 11:46:46 AM
-619

We can see they allocated more than 8 bits for the temperature. When do you think it will overflow? -1000? -2^15? -2^30? -2^31?

Aw. It's fixed now. :-(

It's 8 degrees now.

That's like a 600+ degree warm up in a few minutes. They should be melting tungsten in a few minutes.

Thanks for the screencap, though. By the time I clicked the link it was reading at 11o and had no idea what the fuss was all about.

That's nothing. In Minnesota it's currently -i degrees. That's right, it's the negative of the square root of negative one degrees farenheit.

It was -590 F earlier. Haha.

Anyway...

Actual (record) low in Denver this morning was -16 F. It was -31 F in Maybell, Colorado this morning.

Colder than absolute zero. Take my wife, please.

The temperature dropped so fast here today that it rained out of a cloudless sky.

StubhyGraham 2009-12-09 01:54:38 PM
On my walk home from work last night, I started to get delirious from the cold. Overall, it was quite the enjoyable trip.

I cant believe I actually got that after only reading the first sentence.

sure frickin felt that way... it was so cold it burned earlier.

Do they use a thermocouple for sensing? If that shorted or opened temperature indication (proportional to voltage reading) would fail low.

/GFES FTW

Living in MN and northern NH redefined my definition of COLD. This is not cold. I only came in to work with a Columbia jacket over a t-shirt. You'll find a lot of the people I've seen this morning complaining are transplants from the south or California. Talking to them you'd think the gates of hell are opening up.

/PS for the A-hole from Texas on the way into work this morning: Your 2010 Camaro is not meant for an inch of ice covered roadways, just an FYI. I'm glad I didn't have to clean your paint off my bumper.

I don't see anything wierd about the temperature.
But Andy Keaton needs to mellow out. And do something about that neck tattoo.

I moved to Minnesota in 2000, drove a 1995 Camaro 20 miles to and from work, and wore a wool shirt for a coat, the first year I lived there. Never stuck, seldom cold.

/NorCal mountain driving FTW

I'm more referring to the people from San Diego, LA, and San Fran who have corporate offices out here, it's kind of entertaining. They walk in and you'd think they just got off a research ship from Antarctica. And it sounds like you know how to drive. The guy in that beautiful new car this morning did not, and his rear axle appeared to be about 6-8 inches to the right after he barely missed me and annihilated the center median. (he was turning onto the road and lost it, go figure that much HP will spin out on ice...)

I love my new studded snow tires, BTW.

To the people of Denver - why did you build your airport to look like a swastika? Is that supposed to tell the rest of the world something?

roothog: It's 67 degrees in Atlanta right now.

And breezy. A glorious late fall day. Coming up on Friday/Saturday, a chance of rain/ice? Welcome to Georgia weather. I remember one Friday night where it was in the 50's, and by 6 am it was snowing, by 10, we had 2 inches on the ground, and by 3 pm, it was gone, and back up in the 50's again.
