Well, I'll give you that you're at least truthful

Well, he is. That won't stop us from driving dump trucks full of money up to his house. He's a celebrity, and a talented one.

No one is stopping him from donating a large chunk of that £400 million to charity.

Bono is overpaid, overvalued, overplayed, overestimated, overliked, over(x) where (x) is any "positive adjective". The guys a tool, ahd should probably just go away and never come back.

Plus his music blows.

ranak 2009-12-02 11:01:50 AM
With all that money, you'd think that U2 would be able to put out decent music again instead of preachy pop crap.

StrikitRich: No one is stopping him from donating a large chunk of that £400 million to charity.

Second sentence of a 9 sentence story: "The U2 rocker - who is worth an estimated £400 million - says he devotes so much of his time to charitable projects because he believes he has more money than he deserves to have."

Aren't all singers/entertainers/sportsmen/actors/celebrities overpaid?

/This is news, how?

Yeah, note he's devoting time and not money.

He's a talented celebrity, but not a talented musician. Which I think is how you meant it. I just wanted to insult his music, too.

/U2 sucks

I note that his quote refers to the time he spends on it. I'd also note that spending time on something is much the same as spending money, unless your time has no value. And I'm pretty sure Bono's time has value. I'd also note that the likely reason he didn't add "I also spend a buttload of money on my charitable causes" is it's the kind of thing it's impossible to say out loud without sounding like a dick.

D135 2009-12-02 11:49:36 AM

While that's never been a problem for Bono before, I agree. I get it if people don't like U2's music. I get it if they think Bono is a pompous tool -- by most accounts, that's what his personality is like. However, I don't get slagging on him for being a "do-gooder" and trying to make a difference. Good for him!

Yeah, I don't get the hate-on for one of the few celebrities who tries to use his fame to help the disadvantaged. I doubt there is any way he could act that people wouldn't criticize him for though. He's actually somebody who seems to be sincere, which is more than you can say for most celebrities who see the "save the world" thing as publicity for themselves more than anything else.

radioman_ 2009-12-02 12:08:57 PM
We use the term overpaid as if it's the recipient's fault. No one can be overpaid. Someone else can overpay for a service, product etc., but the person receiving the money is not being overpaid. Once again liberals are blaming the victim.

Hadn't heard about that, quick google brought it up, pretty shiatty, but probably the accountant for the company using that loophole. Still, looks bad for his company to pull that... however, the hatred for Bono long preceded that.

Psylence 2009-12-02 12:23:20 PM
Well, it was the genesis of my dislike for the man. Accountant's fault or not, you don't go around asking other people to pony up while you yourself duck out on taxes.

Rich people. Always trying to get out of paying, and get a little *more for themselves.

*Could be gold, could be adulation, could be anything.

Didn't know about that either. I'm almost broke, so I'm not getting a kick...

Bono and all of U2 can suck me sideways. I remember a couple of years back when they came to Canada, and demanded we contribute more cash to the U.N., forgive everyone's debt to us, pull our military out of every country, and my favourite, increase our immigration.fark. You.

Seriously. fark you U2 and the horse you rode in on. Canada is struggling with accommodation and national identity. We have crushing debt, massive unemployment in Ontario, and way to farking many immigrants living off the dole now.

So here's to you Bonohead. Eat a bullet. Give away your millions to the poor first, and we'll talk. Outside of that, join Geldof in the obscurity line of talking celebrity heads that don't walk the walk.

However his rating as "giant douche" is uncontested

He said that ten years ago on a Behind the Music looking back at 1999, talking about the rise of MP3s. He said something along the lines of he didn't care, that he was, "overpaid, overnourished."

Not really. You can dislike someone without envying their status. I don't want to be some opinionated jackass even if it meant I'd be rich.
