The last time my car was towed I seriously entertained the thought of going to the lot and taking a paint gun and shooting the cars on the lot. No permanent damage but they'd have to pay some $$$ to get the cars cleaned up. Didn't do it though.

/cool non-story, bro

Why would they want to clean someone else's car?

But yeah, I'd be entertaining thoughts too.

Just how oblivious to reality do you need to be that you're incapable of figuring out that all secured areas have security cameras these days?

Sounds like my stepsister.

Her daughter's car was towed. She had the ticket, which basically said she had 30 days to bail the car out of jail. We all live in California, we've bailed cars before. But Stepsister is from Boston and won't believe us when we tell her how to get the car back.

At the end of the 30 days they find out the impound fee is more than the car is worth. So they let the car go.

Now the daughter has no car, and stepsister wants to sue the city for taking the car.

Good luck.

I wanted to say impound lot owners are farking thieves, but then I got to thinking. They had to pay for maybe 10 dollars worth of gas to go tow a car. Then they let it sit in a lot. Then they get to charge the person $170 for doing nothing more than driving out, hooking up a winch, driving back, and letting a car sit there. I think I have a new career choice.

I actually had a friend that snuck in to the car tow lot after his car got towed the fence opened to let another car in and he made a b line out of the gate.

Cops never came for him. The towing company called and threatened to sue him. He just hung up on them.
Thats the story.

It's not that hard to just watch out where you park.

And it's legal. As are pawn shops and recycling centers. The permitting process is a bit of a biatch though.

Yes, probably a vagrant slept in the car. Or maybe just used it as a toilet and moved on.

God knows I did until I realized you would need to steal multiple cars to conceal which one was yours...then hide yours somewhere so when the cops come to tell you about your missing truck they don't see it right there in the driveway because your dumbass uncle was high on some pills he found in the Miata and "totally spaced" on the part where he was going to stash it in a garage in Southie so now you've got two dead cops and a cop car that you need to get rid of and now your dumbass uncle is in jail because he got busted trying to sell weed to some kids in a school zone and he's probably blabbing to get himself off the hook and the entire time you're thinking "Why didn't I just pay the $112?"

About the same degree of idiocy that would think that doing MORE damage to the car than the cost of the tow would make any kind of sense.

Why can't stupidity be a felony?

It sounds to me that they committed at least two felonies.

Real mature, you're pissed at the tow company so you take it out on the cars of other people who were towed. The two of you are idiots for thinking this was a good idea.

Girion47 2009-12-02 09:26:04 PM
If you drive your car away after being towed without paying, you will be charged with grand theft auto.

Girion47: If you drive your car away after being towed without paying, you will be charged with grand theft auto.

I don't know about that; it's still your car even when it's in the tow company's possession. You wouldn't be stealing the car. But there could be charges for skipping out on the tow/storage bill.

If it's towed for repossession, though, it's not your car anymore (and never really was) and the above does not apply.
