I hate to say it, but the kid does have a fantastic arm, and could be very good in the NFL, as long as he doesn't have the crap knocked out of him in his first couple of seasons. with some good coaching and an O-line, he could really do some damage

I get better at football just watching him. I am sure this pesky leprosy would clear up instantly if I could just touch his hem.

It doesn't matter how his NFL future plays out (for those who don't believe he has NFL potential, Tebow had at least four NFL-quality passes in Saturday's game).

Poor kid's going to get drafted by the Redskins and be turned into pulp behind that Swiss cheese O-line. People will say he's a bust, because he only played one season, suffering three career-ending concussions.

No he doesn't, his arm is pretty weak. Plus, he runs a college gimmick system that doesn't work in the NFL. Want a perfect example? Alex Smith, who was coached under Urban Meyer at Utah. How's that NFL career working out?

Yeah. Didn't think so.

They said on some show this weekend or yesterday (?) that a poll of GMs had him at around pick 33. My guess is that he would be a little higher if they actually believed his skills would translate into a successful NFL career at QB. I just don't buy it and wouldn't be surprised if Wonderboy doesn't cost a coach and/or GM a job if a team does take him to be their QB in the top 5 or even 10 next year.

Something tells me he'll be a lot closer to Eric Crouch than John Elway.

bjbce1: I hate to say it, but the kid does have a fantastic arm

Off the top of my head in the SEC, Ryan Mallett, Jevan Snead and even Jonathan F*cking Crompton have much better arms than Tebow.

As jalee pointed out, the guy has played in a system that doesn't require a QB to make very many tight throws or anything downfield unless a guy is wide-ass open (and when people like Riley Cooper break out wide open downfield, it's because the defense is sucked in by gimmicky sh*t going on in the backfield). Anything's possible, but he hasn't displayed anything outside of being (a) big, and (b) mobile.

no. his throwing motion is too slow, and NFL safeties will eat that up

bjbce1: I hate to say it, but the kid does have a fantastic arm

His release point is almost as low as Doug Flutie's, so that means he'll bounce around for 6 years and then have a mediocre career with a team on the upswing.

LoveRBS 2009-12-01 02:56:40 PM
Tebow is nothing better than a second rounder. But because of that, he will probably have a better rookie season than other QBs because he'll be on a team with a good/semi-good offensive line and generally a good team around him.

Problem is every scramble he's done looks it was play-called and NFL caliber defenses will knock him around. So running the ball is going to be a minimum, and his College numbers point to that being his best weapon, so his stock falls because of that. His pocket presence is probably best described as average/above average.

He is certainly an upgrade to a number of quarterbacks in the NFL right now (Cleveland, San Fransisco, maybe even Seattle and a number of teams) but how much is an uncertainty.

I hate the Gators, but don't get the Tebow hate. It's not like he hired a PR firm or goes around proclaiming himself the greatest of all-time. This was just the usual ESPN overkill (with the resulting backlash).

Additionally, he has the career record for best passer rating in the SEC. Better than any of the Mannings, Namath, Couch, Wuerffel, etc....

If Josh farking Freeman can be a first round pick, no reason Tebow can't be.

I came here to say this. 4 of 20 on average is not going to make even a practice squad. Although 4 quality passes from a TE would be impressive.

If he threw "4 NFL quality passes" then in the NFL he would average around 4 for 20 as the average number of passing plays in an NFL game is around 20. 4 passes does not an NFL QB make.

jalee: No he doesn't, his arm is pretty weak. Plus, he runs a college gimmick system that doesn't work in the NFL. Want a perfect example? Alex Smith, who was coached under Urban Meyer at Utah. How's that NFL career working out?

Alex Smith is a fine QB in this league. He doesn't make egregious errors, and he's been managing the games well. How well to you expect him to play after 6 games this season? That's the problem with people now; QBs used to be able to grow into the position. Montana, Aikman, Elway, Kelly, even Peyton Manning were giving some room to progress and make mistakes - only to learn from them. Now, QBs are benched after 4-5 games. It's stupid.

I'm not a college football fan at all, but I really think Tebow will win at an NFL level. It may not be in his rookie season, but in 3-4 years he'll be leading his team to the playoffs. From what I've read, Tebow is VERY smart and a great leader (that's better than 1/2 of the QBs starting in the NFL right now). Arm strength is one of the most over-rated attributes in determining a QBs potential (e.g. J.P. Losman). If Tebow can read defenses (which he's proven he can do) and make accurate throws (which the scouting reports say he can), then he will win. As Dungy said the other night, "winners win, regardless of what level the play at". There are rumors that the Bills may be interested in drafting Tebow.

List of best passer rating this season:
1 Kellen Moore, Boise St. QB
2 Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame QB
3 Max Hall, BYU QB SR
4 Case Keenum, Houston QB JR
5 Tim Tebow, Florida QB SR
6 Andy Dalton, TCU QB JR
7 Ryan Mallett, Arkansas QB SO
8 Nathan Enderle, Idaho QB
9 Dan LeFevour, Central Mich. QB
10 Bill Stull, Pittsburgh QB
11 Colt McCoy, Texas QB
12 Joe Webb, UAB QB
13 Levi Brown, Troy
14 Tyrod Taylor, Virginia Tech
15 Riley Skinner, Wake Forest

For example

Jay Cutler

NFL Draft: 2006 / Round: 1 / Pick: 11

2009 NFL passer rating rank......23

Right behind number 22 Matt Cassel

NFL Draft: 2005 / Round: 7 / Pick: 230

Seriously, it's the guy's eye-black, on his face. Is it that offensive to you?

I can understand if someone knocked on your door and started talking to you about God, or if someone forced your kids to pray with them in schools. That stuff is serious.

This guy just writes some crap on his eye black and every one points to it like it's the beginning of a religious monarchy.

Tebow is a fine player, and as several other people have said, if he gets into a decent system, he should be fine. He doesn't have what it takes to play well in a bad system, and will probably get crushed if he ends up somewhere like St Louis, who will likely draft him because it will put butt in the seats.

As a Ravens fan, I wouldn't wish Boller on any one.

And I'm not arguing that it does. I just think he's underrated as a passer. I was more comparing him to other first round QB picks and saying that he's not that bad.

To be frank, I don't think he has the intellect to handle an NFL playbook or NFL defensive schemes. But I might be wrong.

But God forbid he put any more messages on his eye black. That makes some people uncomfortable, apparently.
