Hey guys- this wishlist was created for a group of children in the foster system who are represented by a TFer. He represents approximately 350 kids and the Toys for Tots in their area is overburdened. It started as an idea in a TF thread, and grew and over 100 presents have already been bought for the kids just from posting to TFD and Facebook. If you'd be interested in helping out, the link goes to the wishlist. If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I'll respond throughout the evening.

The gifts were chosen mostly by caseworkers who work directly with the kids with specific children or groups of children in mind. The plan is to have them giftwrapped and tagged with individual names to be handed out at their Christmas party.

For those of you who prefer to donate locally to your own charities, that's awesome too! Anything you do to make a Christmas nice for people who are having a hard time this year is fantastic. Thanks to everyone who has helped with this, especially the TFer who takes on the awesome responsibility of advocating for these kids in the first place, but who prefers to stay out of the spotlight in this thread.

OK, I'm buying something on here just because this is an awesome program and you deserve all the support you can get for running it. But trying to get that headline to fit the actual meter of the song made my head hurt. Maybe "buy a gift for a foster kid and have a fuzzy year." Or something. Just be sure to keep "fuzzy" and not "furry."

Sorry, I'm broke after spending an incredible amount of money on the Toys for Tits program last night.

Thanks! Just be glad I didn't record myself singing it... trust me, the meter would be the least of your problems. I think I'm obligated by some law against cruelty to lip synch at Christmas Caroling time.

Oh and because I am an idiot, I didn't use the Boobies to thank Drew and the moderators for their support on this. You guys are awesome!

I'll speak for Drew and the moderators here: Feel free to use the Boobies to thank them. Just BCC me.

I spend lots of time and money to not feel fuzzy. Warm is good, though.

Anyhoo, I've already shopped and had the bambinos pick out a gift each as well.

Merry Christmas!

What? None of the kids wanted a Rainbow Brite costume? =)

I'm sure I can skip a margarita or two for the kids.

If you buy toys for foster kids, women will suck on your penis

I discovered that on some of the books they had something like a four for the price of two special going on.

Cool, I usually do my local campaign, but I hope this wish list gets filled. Those are some good toy choices and some fun books.

The back pages of the Wishlist are getting no love at all. Click on a different page and buy something.

You know, a strip club in my area (Deja Vu over in Tampa) actually does that every year, though the FCC makes 'em call it Toys for Ta-tas when they mention it on the radio. The dancers collect toys for the Toys for Tots program, and the donors get a moment or two with a lovely lady in very skimpy holiday garb.

As a social worker and Foster Parent Support Worker, let me just say to all of you THANK YOU.

You have no idea how much this can mean to a kid who needs to feel a little loved and appreciated.

xo

Nope. Amazon emails you a coupon for "One Free Blowjob."

/Women have to honour that stuff.
//Or men, whichever you fancy.

Tali 2009-12-01 01:03:13 PM
I don't have a lot to spare this year. Any extra money hubby and I have is going to our own kids... but I do applaud you for doing what you do, anonymous TFer, and I hope the Farkers come through, like the snarky, mean, but ultimately decent and supportive group of folk they are.

"Good Night Moon" OMG!! Loved that book. I liked it so much I wrote the author and she wrote back. Some kid is getting that book from me.

There's a radio station in Ohio that does this as well.

I'll look at this once my internet's up at home. I have local charities I support locally, but one small addition to my list won't break the bank. :)

That's not a gift. That's a judgment. On the parents. This stuff here...it's for the kids.

/what's the next verse, by the way?

But at least they'll be getting a better ration of coke to similac.

My mom used to work for CYS in Pittsburgh and I have seen how rough it can be for kids in this situation at Christmas. No one deserves to have a crappy holiday :). I picked up a couple things for the kids. I hope it goes well for them.

...Though, Amazon is now suggesting that along with my Cocteau Twins CD and Global knife sets I should pick up "Bear Feels Scared" and the play dough creativity center. I should make note not to allow anyone to pick up anything for me via its suggestions :).

Done and done. I wanted to do something this year where I knew the kids were getting things directly. You're my hero, anonymous TFer.

What makes me sad is adding up the numbers requested- there are a lot of kids in foster care :(

ytterbium: What makes me sad is adding up the numbers requested- there are a lot of kids in foster care :(

Yup. Nothing bugs me more than the thought of a kid whose own parents didn't love them enough to take care of them decently. It's why I wanted to work on this- as a little kid, you should always have your parents in your corner, protecting you and helping you grow up well. It's the natural order of things. It sucks when kids get deprived of that. I feel like a lot of kids who have been through that feel like they can't trust anyone and that no one cares about them- maybe seeing their caseworkers and lawyer go through this trouble on their behalf and really going all out to make a nice holiday for them might help them trust them a little more, which could make a big difference.

This might be a stupid question. I coach U8 boys soccer and I really wanted to get one of the soccer balls on the list. I tried to check out and got this error:

Important Message
There is a slight problem with your order. (See below.)

We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to a Wish List or gift registry address.

Does anyone know the way around it?

/I know I could just get something else but i dont want something else =)
