The Salvation Army is doing this??? I'm appalled. My husband & I both buy for kids from their tree every year but if they're going to be pricks about Christmas and check immigration status, screw them. We'll do Toys for Tots from now on.

It's Christmas--peace on Earth and good will to men and all that. Not check their birth certificates!

Yea, that's some bullshiat.

Might I add that TotalFark Foster Santa does not discriminate against immigrant children, if they happen to end up in the foster system that we're donating to.

Quite the straw man.

Since Jesus was a commie that argument can be used against almost everything Americans commonly do.

Also, did someone spill beer on the server again?

Same reaction here. I really liked doing the angel tree, but its off the radar now. star of hope and toy for tots, here we come.

This is disgusting. I hope that this gets national attention and people are fired. I'll go a step further and cast dispersions on the character of anyone who agrees with this idea. These are children, and probably have no idea what their immigration status is. Toy drives are to give toys to needy kids and give them something to be happy about. Adding politics to it ruins it. Shame on them.

All I can say is GOOD START!!!.

We should, as a society, be doing everything possible to make life as miserable, unsustainable and perilous as we can for these invading brown hordes of parasitic social and economic leeches.

If that starts here, than so be it.

No more housing.

No more medical care.

No more education.

NOTHING.

You want to come here and live here illegally?

Hope you get used to being on the run 24/7.

I'm in favor of anything that decreases the amount of employer-placed pressure to donate to the farking Angel Tree. Both large corporations for which I've worked have put us under the gun to give to United Way and Salvation Army. At one, they even had an arm-twisting ambassador who came around and tried to apply personal pressure, i.e. threat of lack of promotion. I am the best judge of which charities and drives I will donate to, and children's charities are never included.

/not Christian, either

How is this different than a fund that only provides scholarships to a certain race or religion? Or government policies like Affirmative Action?

All I want for Christmas is amending the Constitution to close the anchor baby loophole which would bring America's citizenship policy in-line with nearly every other country in the world where the child has the citizenship of the parents.

This is what always impresses me. The assumption that illegal immigrants are from Mexico. Evidently none from Asia, or Africa. None from Central or South America. Or is it only the illegal immigrants from Mexico you object to?

I kind of like his logic. Who cares if they aren't illegal immigrants from Mexico, send them there anyway. Whatever 3rd world hellhole they came from will probably look like paradise comparatively.

Looks like someone needs to reread Luke 10:25-37. A brief glance at John 4 and Acts 10 wouldn't hurt either. Hell, most of the Gospel of Luke has Jesus bouncing back and forth from Jewish lands to Gentile lands. In fact, the genealogy at the beginning of Luke going all the way back to Adam would indicate that unlike Matthew, who's gospel is Judeocentric and only takes the genealogy back to Abraham, Luke intends his gospel and attendant church history to be for all people. Come on Salvation Army! You used to be better than this.

The Southern Dandy 2009-12-01 12:43:13 PM
Come on FARK, cut Texas a break. They're just trying to protect their own. Everybody knows those illegal kids would just use the free toys to commit crimes.

Residency restrictions apply.

Good. They should be made to leave the country and get at the back of the legitimate immigration line.

Point of first contact with any government service should result in immediate deportation, too.

Welfare recipients should be put on birth control too, but thats not really a Holiday thing...

I'm as hard-hearted towards illegals as anyone, but I never even thought of this. If I'm living somewhere illegally I cannot imagine being so brazen as to be signing up for any kind of charity. I would be doing whatever I could to stay off the radar, and my kids would have to be glad to be together.

But, for heaven's sake, it's Christmas. Spend the $20 and give a kid a toy.

Yes.

Why?

Every single other group that has immigrated to this country has assimilated, learned English, and made better lives for themselves than they had back from whence they came.

Mexicans are unique not only in their inability to do so but their abject unwillingness to do so and, quite frankly, a lot of us are sick of it.

It's for this same reason that cries of "racism" or "the man" holding back or squashing black success must be dismissed out of hand when so many other folks have arrived here with pennies in the pocket and unable to speak a word of English and yet, within a generation or two, have assimilated into our culture and made successes of themselves.

FormlessOne 2009-12-01 12:45:44 PM
This isn't a government-run program, folks. You want to yell and scream about tax money going to those who don't contribute to the government-run system? Fine. While I don't condone it personally, it at least makes sense.

But this? The Salvation Army is a friggin' Christian organization, one that supposedly helps those in need without judgement. I'm not a Christian, but I'm always for any group that, without reservation or censor, helps those in need. According to their damned web site, "Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination." There's nothing there that says "oh, and you also have to be a naturalized U.S. citizen."

The idea that these asshats are now taking it upon themselves to do such a thing is abhorrent. It's amazing how Christian organizations seem to fark up even their own basic message. The Salvation Army no longer gets their yearly donation from me.

I dunno why this is an issue...illegal kids will get things for Christmas...like your kid's bike...five minutes after its locked to a bike rack and your kid goes inside the school.

See? They will provide for themselves, just like always.
