How this continues to be a story amazes me.

The CIA farked up. Someone will lose his or her job. Security will increase at all events. Can we move on?

Personally, I think NBC is keeping the story alive on purpose - leading with it practically every day since it happened - for the publicity that they're generating for the show she's involved with on Bravo or whatever network it's on. NBC owns Bravo. Great way to jack up the ratings.

The CIA are spies. The FBI are federal cops. The Secret Service handles Presidential security....and counterfeiting (don't ask, they started as a Treasury security division).

These two questions are something I'm not too interested in or worried about.

Now, is the secret service properly handling security for a President with 4x the death threats of his predecessor? If so how did these two get in? And if they WERE invited, why does the SS not have a record of it?

The news will not stop, because CNN, FOX, and whoever else get higher ratings when they show them. I assure you, if the audiance wanted meaningful news analysis, CNN would damned well show it. We have ourselves to blame for this crap being so pervasive.

I love their reply about how the important thing is that they are working closely with the Secret Service to figure all of this out. Then they cry about how the ridicule has "destroyed" their lives.

Even if he were a terrorist obama would not be in any danger. Terrorists don't attack their allies.

They have to keep reporting on something. If they didn't have these people it would be some other non-story. Otherwise they would have to report on all of obama's failures.

Farkin sloppy of the Secret Service to allow an unauthorized Arab to get near President Obama. Especially so soon after Fort Hood. They know he gets more threats than the last couple presidents combined.

Couldn't you charge them with tresspassing on a federal facility?

I hope they make an example of these two, I think a few months in federal prison would be appropriate.
These reality show idiots have to be kicked in the nuts really hard in order for them to get the message.

Something crazy is going on here. The Secret Service are security guys, not doormen (doorwomen). One pundit who worked at the While House put it "They aren't bouncers - the social office should have handled this". In other words, the Secret Service was concentrating on no one having a gun/bomb, not who was on the official guest list. The WH social office should have caught them well before they got in. Since these two (likely) don't have criminal records, no red flags would have gone up anyway if the Secret Service did do a last minute check on them.

My theory is that someone who thought they could get them in tried, failed, and is denying it so they don't lose their jobs. The Secret Service will "take the hit for the team" and not play petty office politics if they are blamed.

/Plus, local news mentioned they did have ties to India. they helped host the Indian polo team a while back (correct? don't know). So there is a chance people assumed they were just missing from a list, but would likely have been invited.

I think a lot of farkers are being too hard on this couple. If you never crashed a party then you lead a boring life. As for crashing a white house party, that is a huge score and I say bravo!

As far as a breach of the law... I am not convinced they violated the law. From everything I have read, no one stopped them to see if they were on the guest list. The couple did not misrepresent themselves or create and/or use counterfeit invitations.

Had security done its job they would have been stopped at the gate. Embarrassing security, even if they are members of the federal government, does not automatically mean the couple are criminals.

Finally, it is actually a good thing that this occurred. Clearly, those charged with protecting the white house, the first family, and foreign guests screwed up. Had this harmless couple not made their way into a "secure" area, this gap in security may not have been made known leaving open a serious security flaw that could have been exploited by someone who is not so harmless. Love or hate this couple, the white house surly is more secured today for them crashing the party.

Apparently, she has also showed up to a Skins cheerleader reunion and got in pretending to be an alumni. Why are these people being treated as anything other than petty grifters?

Tigggy 2009-12-01 02:09:08 PM
Whatever dude. I call BULLSHIAT. They "claim" they were invited but they weren't on the guest list. AND they for some reason left as people were getting seated for dinner. Now, if you were invited for a dinner, why in the hell would you leave just as guests are getting seated for said "dinner"? Sounds like the music ran out and they new they didn't have seats to sit in.

Incidentally, did anyone actually see the interview with Matt Lauer? I'm curious if anyone puked into a Tupperware container.

/Hm?...what...?

TFA: Before last week the couple weren't known in Washington social circles, and records show that Tareq Sahali gave just $1,600 in political contributions over the past nine years.

Wow... I mean, we all know it's a fact of life that you don't get in good with politicians unless you have deep pockets, but it's pretty staggering to see it laid bare like that.
