I'm too inebriated to RTFA, but whoever was at fault either deserves the death penalty, or should be put to work until they can make new versions of those things.

Bear in mind that if it was a Georgia police Crown Vic or Impala I wouldn't give a damn.

Foaming [TotalFark] 2009-12-01 02:13:14 AM
Wait, they actually let officers drive them on the street?

deanayer 2009-12-01 02:15:19 AM
Dont worry, the officers are "specially trained" !!

And this is why we can't have nice things.

The article says that the police weren't at fault, but I'm going to take that with a grain (or freakin heap) of salt. Before you get on my case, I can't even begin to count the number of times that I've been cut off by a marked or unmarked police vehicle. Or the number of times I've seen them change lanes without a turn signal. Or the number of times I've seen them swerve through traffic (without emergency lights). Or the number of times they've ridden my ass while I'm not in the passing lane and I'm going the speed limit. Or the number of times they've just chilled in my blind zone (and I drive a huge vehicle with a massive blind spot).

Or how about the number of times they just blatantly disregard the posted speed limit so they can get to the coffee shop faster?

I have a feeling one of these things happened here.

Let me put it this way, you don't swerve unless you're going at a high speed... and from the looks of the picture, they crashed in a residential or commercial district... they shouldn't have been going more then 25 or 30mph.

A farking lambo can stop on a dime at 25 or 30 mph.

Is the organ transplanting minifridge included in the £150000? I hear those cost a fortune.

Menace II Sobriety 2009-12-01 02:23:24 AM
Anyone else notice that the specs they cite in the article are totally different than the specs in the caption for the picture?

TFA says the Italian police used to use Porches and Ferraris they confiscated from the Mafia. This is a fantastic idea. I would LOVE to be on the force if I got to drive sexy confiscated cars. "Yeah, I have to work 3rd shift but at least I'm getting paid to drive an Italian sports car at 200 mph."

SwiftFox [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-12-01 02:33:46 AM
A spokesman said the Lamborghini was cut up by another motorist who was leaving a petrol station and the officer at the wheel swerved to avoid it and hit another car but the driver was unhurt.

Cut up?

Which driver was unhurt?

Journalism fail, even without the miniature cryogenic surgeon

SoCalChris 2009-12-01 02:34:22 AM
I had no idea they actually use those cars for day to day police work. I always assumed that it was a PR thing, like the souped up DARE Corvettes that I see pictures of every now and then.

Urinal Cake Mix 2009-12-01 02:35:39 AM
Reading that article and looking at those pictures made me sick D:

The Seattle Police use impounded/repo'd rice rockets and whatnot as their undercover cars. I'm sure there's nothing more embarrassing to a cop than having to drive a riced-out Eclipse, complete with a stupid dragon paint job.

At least Oregon State Police got it (relatively) right. They use Mustang GTs and new Cameros.

Various Florida police departments and the Florida Highway Patrol occasionally use high end sports cars they confiscated from drug dealers.

Probably could have cleared it too - had he floored it instead of hitting the breaks.

This reminds me of when some undercover cops in Florida (I forget which city, but I think back in the '80s) were posing as arms buyers to purchase some M72 LAW rocket launchers. One of the cops was driving a black Daytona to look like the real deal.

Anyhow, in order to show that the weapons the arms dealer was selling were not crap, the guy tested one of the rocket launchers on the Daytona.

I can only imagine what the cops' boss said after that happened.

I like how the black van drove up and over. Must have been a pants-warming sight from the cop's perspective, as four tires run up the windshield.

As I recall, that was in Miami. And it was only a replica Ferrari -- but still expensive.

FTFA: Italian police began using the Lamborghinis four years ago in a bid to clamp down on speeding motorists as it can reach 204mph.

so, in order to catch mild speeding, they will speed more dangerously than anyone? Great Idea !!

I think the distraction of looking in your mirror for cops all the time or starging at your spedometer and rearview instead of the road when they are actually behind you causes more acidents than anything. speeding should not even be regulated.

99.99% of all drivers will drive at their safe comfort speed. those taht will drive dangerously will do so regardless of laws.

stop making money of your own citizens you farking leeches !!
