I have a laptop and I have my cable modem + wifi router plugged into a UPS, so I would have several hours of local connectivity in the event of a power outage (don't know if the cable company has backup power for their upstream equipment).

It's also possible to browse a text-only snapshot of Wikipedia on an offline reader (new window).
