No, it just shows that teenage girls and middle-aged homosexual men have too much money to spend.

No, it's because Hollywood will make a movie out of any popular book series.

1. Put in a filter in farky so I don't have to see the goddamned Twilight greenlights.
2. Find somewhere else to go now that my totalfark pages will have 3 links each.

It's about time we have a greenlight about the Twilight series. There just hasn't been enough here about Twilight. No, literally, THERE ISN'T ENOUGH GODDAMNED MATERIAL ABOUT TWILIGHT ON THIS SITE!

I'm okay.

IMDWalrus [TotalFark] 2009-11-30 05:37:08 PM
I like how the author manages to completely avoid the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the books and movies get so much negative attention because they're awful.

I watched the first movie, once. Even with the Rifftrax audio (the only reason I agreed to it in the first place), it was still a painful experience.

100 Watt Walrus 2009-11-30 05:38:05 PM
Under no circumstances would I defend these movies, but again, how is this any worse than "Transformers" or any of the other guaranteed-to-be-garbage movies that a significant percentage of Farkers (many of them who whine about "Twilight" in these threads) pay to see anyway?

Is it because its target audience is yucky, yucky girls who have cooties?

Alien robots fighting a war on earth at least inspires some decent effects and action sequences that don't look nearly as good on my home set as they do on the big screen. What makes twilight worse is the sparkly 70 year old man who masquerades as a high school kid to get sweet-smelling poon.

Remember, Twilight is bad, but it's not the worst vampire fiction out there. Anita Blake is much, much worse, at least the later books.

You know how Hollywood picks movies to make?

"Are the chances it makes a metric asston of cash better than 2:1 (based upon the success of the source material and/or director and/or writer)?"

If "yes," greenlight.

If "no," don't.

I'd say everything through Obsidian Butterfly is great. Narcissus In Chains was when her series basically degenerated into porno.

Don't even get me started on her Meredith Gentry series.

Five years from now about 50,000 girls who think that being stalked by pasty skinny guys who stay up all night is an admirable life goal will enter the dating pool.

You'd think Farkers would be okay with that.

ya know those blond chicks who hang around in Hugh Hefner's bed (the girls next door). they have all stated that being Hugh Hefner's sperm spittoon was their life goal from when they were girls. the Twilight franchise is just making sure there are more girls for Hugh when he turns 90 and needs a battalion of hot chicks to help him keep his junk hard.
aaagh. i need to wash my brain now.

And what is it about effects and action sequences make them more worthy than any of the equally mind-numbing elements of "Twilight"? It's just a different flavor of empty-calorie candy. The effects and action of the "Transformers" movies substitute for plot. The "Twilight" movies have romance (twisted as it may be) instead. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Rotten eggs all.

Generally, when people watch a crappy movie like Transformers they consume 2 hours of eye-candy, go home and never really think about it again.

They don't go home and dump their wives because "I realized she wasn't my Optimus Prime".

Stupid people are stupid, regardless of the movies they see. But whatever you're talking about, if someone realized they were in a bad marriage as a result of seeing a stupid movie, more power to them.

Sarcasm fails here, subby. It is indeed overgrown (adults stuck in adolescence) teenage boys who run Hollywood.

DeaH 2009-11-30 06:54:31 PM
FishyFred: No. It's full of terrible female role models and harmful examples of relationships.

Are you familiar with most Romantic fiction and poetry? Do you think Jane Erye had a healthy relationship with Rochester? Do you think Byron was a good choice for a boyfriend? Cathy and Heathcliff were your idea of a role model?

Look, I don't think New Moon is great literature. But it is in the Romantic genre. Personally, I prefer the Augustans, but the Romantics have always had their fans. If that were not the case, no one would think Romeo and Juliet were any kind of a great couple.

The difference between movies like Twilight and Transformers is that Transformers is supposed to be mindless entertainment backed by nostalgia with the "plot" serving simply to move the film along from one action scene to the next. Twilight on the other hand is supposed to be a drama, and dramas tend to be based heavily on dialogue or in other words writing. Twilight is poorly written and sends bad messages to it's teenage readers/viewers. The only reason there are even movies is that it became a best selling series and Hollywood wanted a cut.

I readily admit that I have neither seen the movies or read the books and I currently have no intentions too, however the vast majority of opinions or reviews I have seen of Twilight tend to agree that it is poorly written. Again the only reason there are movies is that Hollywood wanted to make money off of this and they will be making pointless action movies again as soon as someone brings another one to the marketing department
with potential to sell to the lowest common denomination.

/I realize that in my lifetime I will leave to see Twilight replaced a hundred times over with some other popular franchise that appeals to some group and becomes ubiquitous until the next thing comes along
//Just ride this wave out

Is this the thread where a bunch of Buffy and Angel fans talk about how stupid Twilight is?

Basement dwellers who like a series aimed at 13 year old girls making fun of a different franchise aimed at 13 year old girls, hilarious.
