Tried to find a pic of the Eli's patented dumbfounded face after one of his passes sails 10 feet over the intended receiver into the hands of a a surprised safety, but this is the best I could come up with:

Giants are farked either way. I'd bench him and hope he gets better for next season. After dropping 5 of 6 they should walk away from this season looking to shore up their team.

At best they would've been a wild card team and i don't believe the New York media would be sympathetic to another first round knockout if Eli was playing.

I think Carr is better than he gets credit for... no one would have been good getting sacked 300 times a season. Playing with a decent line, throwing to decent receivers, and playing for a last gasp starter contract? It could be worse.

The one win was an OT FG after blowing a 14-point 4th quarter lead.

Their next game is against Dallas, followed by the Eagles.

They're pretty much done for the year.

/you may ask yourself, "Self, how is it that the 6-5 Giants are toast but the 5-6 Jets still have a shot?"

Jets are 2-3 in conference iirc, sitting at 5-6 with their best defensive player being J. Revis. The same argument could be made for the once 4-0 Jets and now 5-6 bungle.

Sanchez has been anything but "pretty good" for the last 7 weeks.

The only way that this makes sense is because the Jets play Cinci and Indy week 16 and 17. Odds are they will not be facing starters for the whole game (unless home field advantage is still up for grabs..)

The Giants, while the situation doesn't look good, have plenty of chances to recover.

They're only 2 back from the division with a tiebreaker over the current division leader (Cowboys) who have two division road games, the Saints and the Chargers left to play. They also have the tiebreaker over Atlanta, if it should come to that.

They have 3 home games remaining, and one of their 2 road games is against the woeful Redskins.

If they could take Dallas and Philly at home (which is certainly possible) they'd have momentum going into the games with Carolina/Washington, which would be easy wins if they had some momentum.

Now, this is all a "what-if" scenario, but they're not out of it yet.

FreakinB 2009-11-30 02:46:45 PM
As I said in the other thread, Eli is pretty far down on the list of problems with this team. Given the crappy O-Line and running game, no QB will be able to do too much. If this happens, we'd have all those problems plus David Carr. And while I don't think Carr is quite as bad as everyone says he is, he's no Eli. Damn it all.

Dallas has looked shiatty as hell in several games and the Eagles have been consistently shiatty (They had two games basically given to them by EVEN shiattier teams. Man there is a lot of shiat this year) so it would not surprise me if the Giants beat both.

It isn't like they have the Colts and Saints lined up.

That said, I don't think the Giants will make the playoffs this year.

I mean, the Giants have fallen apart but of their 5 losses three were poundings by playoff teams and 2 were close games also to playoff teams.

If the Giants hadn't lost the game to the Chargers, which they really should have won, they'd be sitting pretty here.

The Jets, OTOH, have been beaten 6 times and at least 3 of those times were by teams who ain't going to the playoffs. Probably 4. The two playoff teams that beat the Jets both poundings.

I can't imagine how you could argue that the Jets have been better than the Giants here...

The O-line is pretty disheveled as well. Seems like it got old almost overnight.

Giants' problem is their defense. Sure, the injuries haven't helped but Sheridan doesn't seem to have any answers. Send him on his way. Maybe Fox gets canned and we get him back?

The O-line seems to have made the transition from "veteran" to "old" seemlessly. I actually think Carr will be okay. Or at least as okay as Eli was behind that line.

As much as I hate to admit it, time to start playing the younger players. Let's see what Giants have and what they need.

QB's more than any other position in any other sport except maybe SP in baseball are graded on wins and losses, he was an OK QB last year and his #'s this year are better as long as he doesn't blow up like he did toward the end of last year.

This is what I said when Carr was in Houston, but then he was so completely inept in Carolina that I had to change my view. The sacks also couldn't entirely be blamed on his line; some of it is the QB's fault for slow reads, slow decision making, poor pocket presence and lack of mobility. Is it possible that he's improved in New York by learning with less pressure? Sure. And there's never been any doubt that he has the physical tools.

Rodgers had a less-than-stellar day against the Bucs. He has curbstomped the teams he was supposed to curbstomp (Lions, Browns, and Rams) by a 127-32 margin. Yes, it's a team effort, but that's a whoopin'.

Other than the Bucs, he's lost to a shockingly good Bengals team and the best team in football twice. They've gone 7-2 in games they "should win." One of those "should wins" was to the Bengals before anybody knew they were good.

The Bucs loss was Rodgers' fault in the way that a pitcher gets a loss because of an outfield error. 28 offensive points, 400+ yards of offense, and a rookie QB on the other side of the field whom your defense/ST gave up 31 points to. The 3rd interception was desperation and taken back stupidly instead of being knocked down.

Rodgers did enough to win that game. The GB defense didn't.

Trying to be a tough guy and playing on a very painful foot injury wasn't the smartest idea.

To be fair, the Jets ALSO went tits-up after losing to the Saints.
