This wouldn't be the first time. Huckabee pardoned a serial rapist. A few people on his staff came forward to say it was done simply to rub it in the face of Bill Clinton, as one of the victims was a cousin or niece of his.

The guy later raped and murdered another woman after Huckabee pardoned him.

As a conservative I am ok with Huckabee going down in flames.

He was entirely too liberal on big government and things like.....clemency.

Huckabee did a lot of this as Governor.

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 10:10:11 PM
If this is true, then this is certainly his Willie Horton moment.
I guarantee nobody working in law enforcement would ever vote for Huckabee now.

Man, Mitt Romney's programmers are going to be walking a fine line trying to write a software update that approximates "sad about the officers'death yet angrily opportunistic about Huckabee."

Palin's just gonna make something up about how she used to personally beat felons with moose antlers.

ecmoRandomNumbers [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 10:16:43 PM
Mike Huckabee is not a bad man. Politically, he's a right-wing nut, but in real life -- meh... not so much. I like the guy as a person, but I wouldn't follow him into battle or vote for him as president.

Well, she would have done this but had to leave for undisclosed reasons.

this won't end his career; won't even be a blip on the radar. Republicans love nothing more than a good fall-and-redemption story, unless it's an up-by-your-bootstraps mavrick story.

Ouch, I know some other Republican is going to use this and other examples to Willie Horton Huckabee. Huckabee seems to believe quite strongly that criminals can be redeemed, despite all evidence. That's the only reason I can think of to pardon or commute the sentences of this waste of space.

ecmoRandomNumbers: I like the guy as a person, but I wouldn't follow him into battle or vote for him as president.

I second this. Religion aside, he does seem like a guy I could get along with.

But the wingnuttiness means I'd never vote for him.

Well the other reason is that the war on drugs has spiked our prison populations, and sometimes states need to release "X" amount of prisoners to prevent over-crowding. Everyone wants to be tough on crime, nobody wants to pay for it.

Yeah, but the scumbag in question had a long history of repeated violent crimes, including burglary, assault, and rape. He was apparently also violently mentally ill.

The bigger question here is why he got let out of jail about a week ago though he's facing child rape charges, but he sounds like the kind of guy who really should be in jail, and I can't see anything that would lead anyone to see him as a good candidate for having his sentence commuted.

Yep, I posted the link to the Wayne DuMond case. The "Arkansas Rape" section is the start of it.

There was the also the time Huckabee fired the Commandant of the Arkanas State Police. The Commandant says it was because he wouldn't cover upharkabee's son's penchant for torturing animals.

While I do not like Huckabee's politics, this does not change my opinion of his ability to govern. Granting pardons is hardly the most important thing the President does. I would rather vote for someone who issues bad pardons but repeals DADT and implements public health care than someone who pardons only deserving individuals but vetoes progressive legislation. Unfortunately, Huckabee would never in a million years implement public health care.

I'm going to miss him. Huck was the sort of guy who did not seem to exist in a specific time period, as he has also been a Roman gladiator, a Medieval knight, and a rocket scientist. He was never in the future though, only the present (as of the show's airing) or the past. One regular villain in the series was "Powerful Pierre," a tall and muscular unshaven character with a French accent. Another regular villain was "Dinky Dalton" a rough and tough western outlaw that Huck usually has to capture. Crazy Coyote, an Indian who Huck often had to defeat who was his match. And the rows, two crows with Mafia accents who often annoyed Farmer Huck. Another trademark of Huck was his tone deaf (as well as inaccurate) rendition of "Oh My Darling, Clementine," often used as a running gag. He also commonly used the phrase "and stuff like that there" in place of "etc." This phrase showed up quite often, but Huck said it more often than anyone else. One of his careers had his job position on the door listed as "TS & SLTT." When asked what it stood for, Huck said "Top secrets and stuff like that there."

Unless of course that story is attached to a Democrat or a Libertarian, or another Republican that they're running against...

And therein lies the rub. If this "person of interest" is arrested and/or convicted, his own Primary opponents are going to hammer him on it.

Doesn't matter if he's even arrested, these are Republicans we're talking about. Facts don't matter. What matters is the illusion, and Pawlenty and Romney are going to hammer him over this until he's gone. Nobody wants to lose Iowa.

True. Obama could declare marital law and start forcibly converting scared white protestants to Islam, homosexuality, and socialism.

I can't speak for him as a person, I don't know him. What he does want to do is turn this country into a religious theocracy and bomb people in the name of Jesus, which is why I say that nothing of value was lost.

This, obviously, only holds true for those who are actually guilty of the crime they were convicted of.

I wonder how FOX will handle this story.

Cancel his show, show old pictures of him when he was really fat, and label him a Democrat?

Or not mention it at all?

NRO just reported that Huckabee released him. No editorial as of yet. It should be interesting to see how things are spun...

"As far as I can tell, until today, Clemmons had never been accused of, let alone indicted for or convicted of a homicide. The record is rather one of an endless string of aggravated robberies, assaults and similar crimes. An account of one of Clemmons court appearances from his original sentencing appeared thus in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in March 1990 ..."

Don't you JUST LOVE IT when someone answers their own argumentative supposition all on their little ol' lonesome?

"Huckabee's to blame because like me, he never saw it coming."

baka-san: As much as I wish it would hurt him, it won't with his core fans.

Up until it comes down to the Primaries. Then it's going to bite him soundly in the touchis. I suspect this go around is going to be particularly vicious--though, it depends on how things go in the next two years. If the economy is back up and chugging, then it's going to be the moment to choose a sacrificial lamb.

I hate the fact that the GOP put Bob Dole up against Clinton when they did--because I liked Bob Dole on a lot of things, but he could not compete with Clinton at the time. If Obama gets the economy up and running, the GOP may have to choose another to run as the placeholder for the party, and save their energy, and money, to oust whoever the Democrats will put up in 2016...

Mitt Romney's programmers can't say too much. He has one of these cases himself. Daniel Tavares Jr stabbed a couple to death shortly after a judge Romney had appointed let him go (difficultly: he'd stabbed his own mother to death).

Romney, ever the sleazy weasel, blamed the judge and anyone who would stand still rather than take any of the blame for appointing someone who probably should never have been on the bench in the first place.
