Go back to my book as I have neither.

Wife is only 35. Time for a replacement son?

/whole thing sucks big time

7of7 [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 03:36:48 PM
Definitely wife, you can always make more sons.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 03:40:14 PM
Don't know, but the Miller Lite is over the cliff for sure.

Gwendolyn [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 03:41:25 PM
He tried to save the kid first and failed. Then he saw the wife floundering and saved her.

I'm wondering how everyone got out of the car but the kid. Hell, even the dog made it out.

Gwendolyn: I'm wondering how everyone got out of the car but the kid. Hell, even the dog made it out.

The kid was probably strapped into one of those now-mandatory "safety seats."

Damn, the beer joke is already gonel.

You know the wife would want him to have saved the son.

I thought the same thing when I first read the article and parsed "13-year-old" as "13-month-old" and assumed a toddler. After reading it again, I can only guess the impact into the water knocked him unconscious, he was in shock, something. Either way, this whole story is something I wish I hadn't read. And I don't have kids.

Do I actually like either of them?

Which one loves me more?

Shoot the hostage.

He'll never hear the end of it from his wife that he tried to save the son first.

The creature is wanted for a murder he didn't commit.

David Banner is believed to be dead, and he must let the world think that he *is* dead, until he can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within him.

If it were me or my child, my husband had damned well better save the child.

I was thinking that too. Somehow, I foresee a lot of therapy in the future, and an inevitable divorce. Maybe I'm too much of a pessimist, but that's how I see this playing out.

jekxrb [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 04:52:47 PM
The dog. Definitely the dog.

puffy999 [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 05:07:14 PM
The answer is the child. There's no debate. If you could stop time, and ask the wife if she'd rather be saved or if her son would rather be saved, she'd choose the son.

puffy999 [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 05:08:40 PM
But, yes, sometimes circumstances don't allow for one party to be saved...

Mayostard [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 05:11:48 PM
I would go for my son first, since I know that's what my wife would want me to do.
I all honesty, I would probably die trying to save them both.

TheJoe03 2009-11-29 05:13:01 PM
Who wouldn't pick their kid? That is a blood relation right there.

TheJoe03 2009-11-29 05:13:52 PM
jekxrb: The dog. Definitely the dog.

The Miller light?

LineNoise [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 05:14:15 PM
Son. Because you know your wife would never shut up if you didn't choose him.

Merky 2009-11-29 05:14:52 PM
Who is fatter? Is there life insurance on the wife?

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 05:15:04 PM
Wife.

Maggie_Luna 2009-11-29 05:15:08 PM
I'd go with the kid. All I could think of is "You save the children not the spouse!" after I heard he saved his wife. Hell, I'm generally apathetic at best in hypothetical situations but you save the kids. Those are just the rules.

towatchoverme 2009-11-29 05:15:19 PM
Son.

No question.

I wonder if that the windows were not down and as a result that the uneven pressure pretty much kept the doors shut.

/ Worst case scenario books sure do teach you alot.

Jaws_Victim 2009-11-29 05:16:04 PM
There was a postsecret post card that was along the lines of: "When I was in labor and the doctor asked you who to save, you said "Save my child." I'll never forgive you for that.."

It's a lose lose situation. He tried to save his son, and was unable, so he saved his wife. They need to comfort each other in this tragedy and not split apart.

LineNoise [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 05:16:14 PM
Wait, the kid was a teenager. I change my answer to wife, under the women and children first rule.

ModernLuddite 2009-11-29 05:16:30 PM
It wasn't a choice, though, he just couldn't get to the kid and the wife was out of the car anyway.

Decide it's time for a fresh start?

homeschooled [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 05:16:42 PM
I sure as hell wouldn't have sat on the farking side of the water and prayed! That's for sure. I would've tried to swim down until I drowned. And that's the truth.

RockIsDead 2009-11-29 05:16:42 PM
Son, easy to get a new wife, especially with that sob story they'll be flinging themselves at you.

Rozinante 2009-11-29 05:16:45 PM
Does the wife still put out?

I'd save my godson before any of the girlfriends I've had. There's the one-step-removed solution. He can't take care of himself.

you are a puppet 2009-11-29 05:17:11 PM
The wife because I didn't want the kid anyway.

garulee [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 05:17:14 PM
It's killing me to even think about this. I would save my son first. Then go back for my wife until my own lungs burst.

Sygonus 2009-11-29 05:17:37 PM
In evolutionary terms, he probably made the correct decision since he can always father more children with the wife.

Ashtrey 2009-11-29 05:17:48 PM
How hot is the wife?

Inaditch 2009-11-29 05:18:06 PM
FTFA: Mrs Horton, 35, was driving Silva, his best friend, Robert Palmer, 14, and the family dog

I guess he found his wife simply irresistible.

One Thirty-two and Bush 2009-11-29 05:18:17 PM
The son. Your wife was probably going to cheat on you in the future anyway.

/your son will probably disappoint you too.

RockIsDead 2009-11-29 05:18:17 PM
LineNoise: Son. Because you know your wife would never shut up if you didn't choose him.

Excellent point.

Guest 2009-11-29 05:18:22 PM
Not a decision I would ever want to make or a decision I would ever want my husband to make. But he seemed to save the person he could save which although a hard decison to make seems to be the most logical.

Stacey Horton saved his wife, Vanessa, and their 13-year-old son Silva drowned in the Whanganui River.

Wrong, so wrong on so many levels.

You can always divorce a b*tch, not yo' kid, dawg!

mesohorny 2009-11-29 05:18:51 PM
im confused how did he know they drove off the cliff and arrive there in less than 2 minutes?

Vexed Thespian 2009-11-29 05:19:21 PM
depends. i would say that under circumstances, the son may have a lower chance of survival even if the father tried to save him. there really is no way that someone can make any decision than to save "whoever is the easiest and closest" if you can only save one.

Juniper Jupiter 2009-11-29 05:19:28 PM
The spouse. I don't have kids.

And I'd do my damnedest to save the dog, too...even though I don't have one of those right now.
