Despite being one of the most famous and recognized superheroes, I would defy your average non-nerd to name 5 Superman villains not named Lex Luthor. (Smallville, SAS, and Justice League has changed this equation a bit, though)

I've said it before; the best Superman story is that with him being nearly immortal, it will be torture for him to watch his closest friends and loves age and die before him, that's incredibly lonely, and the danger is that it could cause him to turn away from humanity because detachment is the only way away from the pain. Add to that the fact that humans can easily turn on him because he makes all the challenges we could overcome kind of trivial. Like, why go to Mars if he can speed ahead and meet our astronauts there? Why compete in Olympics? Why achieve anything? It's like struggling to out-do the really talented big brother, who's better than you at everything and always will be. At some point, if you're character isn't up to the challenge, you turn into a failure, you give up. And if he's not immortal, knowing he'll be gone one day must leave him very fearful as to who can protect Earth after he's gone.

I did too. It wasn't a masterpiece, but it also wasn't the complete and total trainwreck the internet hivemind thinks it was. Finding a plot other than Lex Luthor's Land Grab Part 2 would've been nice and the entire James Marsden/Superkid storyline could have been excised, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

And let's face it: between Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, and Catwoman, we've got proof that it could have been a lot worse.

Really? I thought it was pure garbage. Almost as bad as Ghost Rider, but waaaay more boring.

But I've never really liked Superman anyway. He's perfect, so I feel no pity when he is "losing". Plus he has an infinite amount of super powers. When his current powers won't help him win, they add new ones. His only weakness is a space rock, from his own planet. Why does kryptonite fark him up on earth, but he literally lived on it on Krypton?

"Able to leap large buildings in a single bound!" The farker can fly, why does he need to leap at all?

But the thing that pissed me off most of all (which I've voiced on FARK before), is his shiatty disguise. Seriously? You take off the damn glasses and all of the sudden it's "Where'd Clark go? Can you find him Superman?!" Just plain retarded.

Because on Krypton, the rocks weren't radioactive to him until after the planet exploded.

Yea I know, it was more to illustrate the fact that they've continuously added powers to him to suit the comics need. He's a god, and I just can't connect with him because of that.

You just have to put Superman in the proper weight class. I used to be bored with Superman also, like in the old Superfriends stuff where he mostly forgot how many powers he had.

Then again World Made of Cardboard (new window)

Shazam! (new window)

The Diniverse makes him interesting again.

Superman originally couldn't fly. At best he could run quickly and leap one-eighth of a mile. He gained the ability to fly when the story writers found his original powers too limiting. But the tagline somehow remains.

The new DC Entertainment is full of retards and chimps who do not know how to run the comics side of things, and don't know how to translate the comics into good movies.

Sure, Blackest Night is good, but if Geoff Johns were to ever leave DC Comics, they would be screwed.

And seriously... how can they not figure out how to make a good Superman movie? Oh, wait... this was the company that wanted Nic Cage to be Superman in black leather.

And do they have to keep mining the Superman origin over and over? A Good Death of Superman trilogy would probably make fanboys and regular people flock to the theaters. Death and world without a hero in the first movie, with the end giving hints at Eradicator, Steel, Cyborg, and Superboy. Movie 2 is Reign of the Supermen. Movie three... well, hell, maybe you don't even need three movies.

But, no, we keep getting the same Superman movie remade over and over.

Stupid farking DC.

After spending half of the first movie watching crowds of people stare in wonder at the sky, I didn't feel the need to see any sequels. As much as I respect Singer as a director, I bitterly resent him handing off X-Men 3.

I submit that we quit doing origin stories as the first of a franchise. Comic book fans already know the origin, and everyone would be better served starting in media res. A New Hope didn't start with Anakin as a little boy, it started with a Star Destroyer kicking ass. For many heroes you have DECADES of material to strip for ideas.

Lucas claims all six movies are about Anakin's rise, fall, and redemption, but fair enough, you're right. So how about this:Raiders of the Lost Ark didn't start with a teenage Indy.

Goddammit. After Superman's thrilling adventures fighting a big rock in the last movie, I was eager for him to wail on a tree or get medieval on a tall building instead of just leap over it. Will I ever get a good story about kicking an inanimate object's ass again?

The last superman movie was boring. If it had more action scenes such as the shuttle rescue and less emo superman. The hatred I have for the kid as well knows no bounds. Get Johns or Millar to write the script and have him face off against someone like doomsday or Metallo just someone he can have a brawl with.

Right.

WB is so stupid, they want to set a Sgt. Rock movie in the future. They don't want to do a Sgt. Rock movie correctly because they claim that WW2 Movies don't make money.

If they won't do a WW2 Sgt. Rock, which sounds like it could be a decent moneymaker, you think they would take Superman back to 1938?

The chunks of Krypton that were hurled through space and became Kryptonite became radioactive and deadly to Kryptonians due to some type of sub-atomic change to the properties of the material that occured when the planet blew up.

So, he didn't live on Kryptonite. He lived on a perfectly normal planet (if you go by that version of his origin). the chunks of the planet didn't become Kryptonite until after the planet blew up.
