I'll go with massive fail by subby.

UNC_Samurai [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 01:03:53 PM
I have no doubt he's going into the Ole Miss Hall of Fame on the first ballot, but I doubt that's what subby was thinking when he put down the crack pipe.

Since when is Eli Manning a Hall of Famer?

thegod082 2009-11-29 03:23:43 PM
I have a feeling that subby meant something like "first-half of the season Hall of Famer" or something. But who the hell knows.

DrVoice 2009-11-29 03:27:05 PM
Do they still have the Hefty Lefty as his backup? The Pillsbury Throwboy? The Battleship Lorenzen?

mjoven1975 [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 03:29:31 PM
Even if we set aside that subby thinks Eli Manning is a Hall of Famer, he still fails at basic reading comprehension. A stress reaction is NOT a stress fracture.

I don't think he does.

Nobody could have typed that phrase with a straight face. At least not yet... who knows, he could turn it on and be like his brother at some point.

I don't understand how a mediocre player getting a stress fracture could end a first ballot Hall of Famer's season.

Eli is functional enough that even in his hobbled state I don't worry about the offense all that much. The secondary and "vaunted pass rush" has been an abomination all season.

I can remember about 3-4 plays in the whole season where Tuck and Osi did anything of note. Really not looking forward to the 35-42 point ass-whippings the Eagles and Cowboys respective offenses are sure to lay down on my beloved Giants in the next few weeks.

Poopspasm [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 03:44:12 PM
I'm relieved to see everyone questioning Subby's choice of words. When I read it at first, I was convinced that some sort of meme had escaped my attention (after all, who could possibly think that), but no--it's just a dumbass headline.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 03:50:30 PM
Maybe Subby means Peyton is such a loving brother than knowing Eli is injured will cause him such grief he will have to sit out?

Giants backup this year is David Carr.
Lorenzen is currently with an Arena1 team.

Eli Manning seems like a good solid classy player. Aside from the initial stuff with San Diego during the draft, he has held himself up well. Not to mention he's part of the first family of football.

That said, I think Eli's chances of real recognition are hurt by playing in the era dominated by Peyton and Tom Brady. Those two guys are the quarterbacks of the era, no doubt about it. Anyone else will have a tough time when they are compared against those accomplishments.

Headline also fails due to fact that Manning 2 Electric Bugaloo does NOT have a stress fracture, he has a stress reaction, which is a precursor to a stress fracture.

GV is pretty much right - the Giants' season is pretty much done. Their loss on Thursday, the Eagles and Falcons both winning earlier today (and both of those decided in the final minute), facing the Cowboys next week and the Eagles the following week....

....At least the Jets still kinda sorta have a shot at the playoffs.

Im a Cowboys fan and IM rooting for the Colts to take it. Realistically, Ill be suprised if we even get to the NFC game, but no way are we SB bound. I just hope Peyton has more SB titles than little brother when its all done. Even Eli has no right to share the same amount of SB wins as Peyton.

The Giants season is only done because they are playing like shiat. Mathematically they still have a fine shot of getting in. They are only one game behind the wildcard with several to play, and they get to play the Eagles who look fairly shiatty (they've won two games recently they really should have lost).

That said, their season is done because the defense is a mess and it doesn't seem likely they can turn it around in time to win out or take only one more loss.

saintstryfe 2009-11-29 09:27:03 PM
Eli's not playing well, and he's probably been much worse injured then Coughlin's let on.

The play-calling has been awful. Eli seems to have to throw 25 yards every pass. Early on in the season against crappy teams, he could handle it. But against anyone with a reasonable pass defense it doesn't work.

The team was still engineered around having a Plaxico-type player. I don't care about that - I said since the beginning of his episode I'd rather lose without him then win with him. Not that there's a choice. But it doesn't speak well of the Offensive staff that they need to have a player like him just not to fail.

The run is neutered.

The D is out there 60% of the game. They're beaten up, and have had everything taken out of them.

The Giants aren't out, but they are not in a good position right now. I blame the play-calling above all else.

THIS. Even the bench warmers get a ring if the team wins.

You know, Rivers has lost as many post season games as Brady has.

As a Giants fan all I can say is

I hate you Eli Manning, I hate your stupid face, I hate how you get us hopeful and then ruin it, I hate how you play like a bush league quarterback instead of a superbowl winner

/Not joking that I'm a Giants fan. Every game I've been to this season this joker blew it. I don't pay $400 for two tickets to watch you suck you asshat.

As a Giants fan, I consider Eli fairly far down on the list of problems with the team right now, well behind things like "no 4th quarter defense whatsoever" or "the offensive line going from a strength to a weakness" or "the sudden, complete lack of a running game."

Given all that, we have bigger problems. He has had a couple of shiatty games (i.e. Cards, which I was there for) but also won a couple (i.e. Falcons). And against the Broncos, while he obviously wasn't great, the other problems were bigger.

lushmore [TotalFark] 2009-11-30 09:29:28 AM
FTFA: Before any stress fracture develops, the Giants are aggressively treating the stress reaction, trying to get Manning to stay off it as much as possible, having him wear extra supportive shoes and using a bone stimulator on the injured area.

My wife never mentioned she was treating Eli's foot.

Pretty much. Though if David Carr has to play, that shoots to the top of the list.
