This is the Tiger Woods thread. He was trying to have a three way with Al Groh and Mark Mangino when his wife threw a fire hydrant into the back window of his SUV because he said that she couldn't join in.

As a Virginia fan, I'm neither surprised nor saddened that Al is gone. The only surprise is that it was so immediate. Now, if only Littlepage would get canned, as well.

/won't happen while Casteen is still prez

This is the same poem that Bill Parcells read to the Patriots' locker room back when he left New England. His D Coordinator at the time? Al Groh.

Anyone have video linkage of the final Al Groh press conference? I can't find one anywhere. Would love to see it instead of just reading it.

You realize that Casteen is retiring at the end of this academic year and the search for a new president is well underway?

I hope that the next president recognizes that athletics is highly visible public face for UVA, and that athletic success does not diminish the school in any way.

Or, at least, please don't drop this quote to the media:
"The chief theoreticians behind the modern athletics rivalry are sports writers and people who sell T-shirts," Casteen writes. "Among persons with less obvious motives, and with more important things on their minds, this athletics rivalry is more jocular than serious."

This is Casteen's last year, or so I heard.

That's an Honor Code violation right there.

Yeah, I realized that after I had posted my comment. Maybe the new prez can convince the Board of Regents, or whatever it's called, to adopt the "Duke" philosophy(investing a shiatload of money into its program in terms of coaching staff salaries and support staff, and reshaping its philosophy on admissions policies for football players). Or maybe enough of the wine and cheese crowd will rise up and force the school to do something.

Ah, who am I kidding; it'll never happen.

The Man in the Glass is a classy poem, but it seems very "me" oriented ... basically an extended, poetic way of saying "I don't give a fark what you think, because my opinion is the only one that matters."

Littlepage is a disaster, and got rid of the football staff to try to keep any blame landing on his arrogant self.
