It is. Parents that don't or can't buy their kids a PS3 should be locked up.

We need to stop the madness.

Time to put the kids out to work in the fields again so they can start to appreciate the little things in life.

This bears repeating.

Hell, Socrates was executed for corrupting the minds of the youth.

It's just part of the human condition; no matter who you are, you'll see the next generation as a bunch of "spoiled brats" and "precious snowflakes", and you'll look for someone to blame for them getting that way. And it goes as far back as recorded history.

Maybe I'll pick it up again if kids come in to the picture, but adults can buy things for themselves.

The main thrust of TFA was not about spoiled kids, but about how we have built our economy on consumer debt spending--how we have overbuilt stores, and what a mirage this whole thing is in terms of real prosperity. We--all of us, of all ages-- are spending money we don't have on stuff we don't need.

Of course, this is FARK, so it turns into an attack on teh snowflakes.

Well, yeah. I put them in descending order. Parents become consumer whores and the media pushes what toys are "hot" this year. Case in point: Those demonic hamsters. Who would actually have bought one if they didn't know it was supposed to be "the next tickle me elmo?" My opinion is that the parents are the biggest problem, but you can't blame it on just one factor.

And, yes, I have dealt with screaming biatching kids who want what they want. It isn't THAT hard to ignore if you have enough patience. Or earplugs. Those could help if you are low on patience.

Remember kids! Sony the Tiger says

"If you don't have at least one Sony (tm) electronic products under the Christmas tree, your friends will laugh at you and you will never be popular. Remind your parents, caregivers or state issued guardian that you have to have a Sony electronic product. Here's how you remind them:

November to December 1: A gently reminder three times a day. Be sure they are sober.
December 1 to December 15th: One loud scream: "If only I had a Sony Electronic my life would be full filled and I could concentrate on school!" They can be drunk or stoned but not passed out.
December 16 to December 24th: Combine the two above and enlist your friends in cross talk. Using the telephone, call your friend and in the presence of a credit card holding adult have the following conversation: "Everyone is getting a Playstation3? Wow. They have parents who really care. I would so like to have a Sony electronic entertainment system as well. I does everything and I would like my dad watch his blue ray porn on it too."

After December 25th it is never too early to start working on them for next year. Be generic as we plan on rolling out lot of other stuff. Be sure to complain that the Sony electronic product you did get was not the item you actually wanted.

Remember kids! Sony the Tiger says "Those dead beat parents have 12 months to pay this stuff off. Go for the top dollar Sony products. Don't go down without a fight!"

Fish in a barrel, my friend.

It is a sad condition, though, people sacrificing even the important stuff, health insurance, repairs on the house, to keep up with the Joneses or at least what we think the Joneses are getting for Christmas.

I don't how it is everywhere else, but we have a farkload of stores that are closing all over the DFW area. In just about every stripmall or large shopping center, there seems to be at least one in three stores with a big "for lease" sign in the window. Not that I've really measured, but there appears to be a glut of franchises that are having "going out of business" sales and run offs.

My husband and I have tightened our belts considerably, and it's just the bloody two of us. I can't imagine what it's like for couples that have a few kids or mom living with them. But then again, some people seem to be oblivious to it. The couple that lives to our north gets all sorts of assistence from the government, but yet they thought it prudent to go out and buy a parrot that was worth $500.

Splinshints 2009-11-29 10:02:53 AM
My wife and I decided last year that we're just going to buy things for the house at Christmas. I give cash and cheap stuff to everyone else. I think last year I spent maybe $150 on everybody, then my wife and I went out the day after Christmas and got a few hundred dollars worth of stuff off of Clearance racks for about a hundred bucks.

Fark the American Christmas. I don't mind getting together and having drinks and food and all that, or even exchanging small gifts, but this bullshiat where people are spending hundreds of dollars on each of their kids every Christmas, or rushing around fighting over imported electronic trash, is retarded, and I'm going to leave it to the retards.

I am in favor of this. Children should be working as soon as they can walk. Simple things, obviously. This attitude that childhood is a time for play and pleasure is a curiously modern invention.

I've met children in college who have never actually held a job. I mean, seriously?

"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shiat we don't need. (...) We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."

Or how about

"There's the television. It's all right there - all right there. Look, listen, kneel, pray. Commercials! We're not productive anymore. We don't make things anymore. It's all automated. What are we *for* then? We're consumers, Jim. Yeah. Okay, okay. Buy a lot of stuff, you're a good citizen. But if you don't buy a lot of stuff, if you don't, what are you then, I ask you? What? Mentally *ill*."
