So what fifth-best coaching option is Notre Dame going to be disappointed in next?

There's this guy in Ohio who's supposed to be pretty good, I hear his nickname is "The Man Genius." I guess he has some NFL experience, so he should be able to provide Notre Dame with a decided schematic advantage. If it's true, they'd be fools not to hire him.

He'd never take it. You can't fine players in college, or make them practice without helmets.

I really feel sorry for the morbidly obese. Please be gentle with the coach, Farkers.

Thank you.

His only winning record is his weekly matches of Trivial Pursuit with his kid.

ND should interview Frank Solich for the job. He has experience in underwhelming delusional fanatics by ONLY winning 9.6 games a year, winning a national title, and finishing in the top 10 three times. The guys who expected Notre Dame to go 10-1 this year need a new hope, and Solich can handle their delusions.

can't wait for ND to play Central Michigan in Detroit. Didn't the Irish use to decline bowl games when they were this bad?

Please suck in your pride and come back to the Pats, Charlie. Maybe not the best OC, but one that gelled with Brady.

Why people hate ND is summarized in this AP article on the 6-6 team:
The Irish also have not decided whether to accept a bowl bid.

Leave Frank in Athens. Ohio U is doing fine with him.

Meh. He was fired a couple of weeks ago when he made the announcement that his performance this year was unacceptable. Now he is just playing out the year to avoid embarrasment that comes with firing a coach / or resigning in the middle of the season.

JJRRutgers 2009-11-29 08:55:28 AM
I wonder if ND's game program next year fails to mention that Weis was ever their coach, like they did with their recent 3-9 season:

There are 34 bowl games. That means 68 of 120 are in a bowl. Every decent 6-6 team gets a bid, it's not even Notre Dame favoritism.

/though it's true ND would always get a bid at 6-6 no matter how few bowls there were

I think it's more the elitism of "deciding whether or not to accept a bowl invite" Most 6-6 teams who are invited to bowls are chomping at the bit to partially redeem a mediocre or disappointing season. The fact that Notre Dame still has delusions that they're above that is annoying and frankly delusional. College Football has changed Irish, 1 team can't stay at the top forever (see USC this year and UF next year for examples)

I will be sad to see him go. As a Notre Dame hater, this was an even better year than 2007 (3-9), because all the ND losses were last minute heartbreakers.

Good thing Notre Dame got rid of that Black guy!

skinink 2009-11-29 10:37:06 AM
I always thought Charlie Weis was a good coordinator, but he was full of it when he said ND would have a "Schematic Advantage" against opponents. It sounds like since he really didn't have anything to point to as a strength on ND, he had to reach for something so he could confuse his critics.

And because of the schedule this was supposed to be an 8 to 10 win season. Lots of home games, only a couple of teams thought to be top 25 quality and a few name teams having obvious trouble, and therefore ripe for picking.

I will be sorry to see Charlie leave each ND. They were SO made for each other.

/Sorry Charlie. Good nickname for him.

As a New Yorker, the thing I hate THE MOST about the media there (which of course also applies everywhere, it's just worse in NY) is the speed the mood changes in. Mangini has a few good games on Chad's good year? HE'S A GENIOUS! Sanchez throws one good pass in a pre season game? HE'S AMAZING! Just ignore the second game against the Ravens D. Torre gets into a rut of losing playoff games with an overpaid roster of chumps? HE SUCKS GET HIM OUT OF HERE!

I'm surprised they haven't run Manuel out of town for causing injuries yet.

That idiot will be a scout for an NFL lower echelon also-ran in 2 years, if he's lucky.

One would imagine that it's finally become clear that Mangini is not suited to be the head coach of a NFL team, but as long as Al Davis is in the league, such a statement is not a safe one to make.

The sad thing is, a lot of Domers actually think Urban Meyer can be lured away from Florida.

But I wouldn't doubt that they could get Brian Kelly. Jim Harbaugh will take the Michigan job in a year.

As for Weis: he should get a job as an offensive coordinator...for USC.

ummm... so when and where did he win a national title?

he was an assistant at NU during the title years, not the HC.

Not to threadjack, but Torre was not fired. He chose not to accept a new contract that would have paid him the same amount of money if he made the playoffs. He found it "insulting".

That said, Torre has awful pitching management and you can be damn sure that if Torre was managing the 2009 team, Damaso Marte would have been DFA'd or something for not being one of "Joe's guys".

This. Doesn't matter whose bowl it is, or where, if your choice is between Notre Dame and UConn, you're picking Notre Dame for the attention. And if UConn wins, they'll be 7-5 and ND will STILL get a bid before them.

\even if UC and Hawaii win next week, that's still only 61 out of the 68 over .500....
\\Poinsettia, New Orleans, St Pete, Eagle Bank, International, New Mexico and that stupid "let's play a bowl game in AT&T Park because it cost too much to build" Bowl all need to go

Not that anyone is checking this thread anymore, but Weis is officially out at ND. Let the coaching hunt begin.

/and expect another sub-par bowl performance from us...
