I kind of had a feeling that after the ass-chewing Goodell took from Congress over NFL players and head injuries, Roethlisberger wouldn't be playing this week. Imagine the shiatstorm if he did play and took another concussion that caused far more severe brain trauma.

Bubba-Ray! 5 more concussions and you are going to die!

This will mean that they might move to a rush heavy offense. Now that should probably tell me to start Mendenhall instead of J Stewart this Sunday.

Hmmmm..decisions decisions. Then again I also have LeSean McCoy against the Redskins. Ugh so out of these 4 which 2 would be a good start? Gore(Vs Cardinals), J Stewart(Vs Jets), Mendenhall & McCoy.

I was going to start Gore and Stewart.

I can't wait to see the Ravens tee off on Dixon.

I hate the Steelers, but I kinda hope this Dixon kid is worth something. If it hadn't been for that knee injury in college, everyone would have known his name, playing for Oregon before they got annoying.

These are both true but it does raise the question about accountability, as in when a skill-player is held out of a game against his will due to a head injury that he may or may not have fully recovered from, and the team loses in large part to his absence, who do the fans crucify? Do we see Goodell stepping in and holding players out?

I thought it was interesting this week, the conversations about bringing in doctors from outside the team to run the tests and issue conclusions so there's no bias for a rushed return. Hopefully the horses aren't already out of the barn, the way MLB tried/is trying to clean up PEDs....

ive heard rumors that mandatory sit downs for the following weeks games is being kicked around as a possible part of the nfls concussion plan... would be interesting to see

Well ... seeing as Arizona is in Tennessee this week (the San Francisco game is next week, on MNF) I'd say don't start Gore against the Cardinals just yet, hah. That snark accomplished, when the 49ers played Arizona back in week one they held Gore to 30 yards on 22 attempts. He was stuffed.

If you coupled it with the NFL placing a league doctor on each team and the league doctor examining all players you could control for it to a certian degree. Team doctors will of course likely do what the team owner says, but if the league springs for 32 doctors it could help enforce the rules.

Ugh I dont even know why I wrote Gore (Vs Cardinals) he's playing against the Jaguars this week.

Don't forget his back-up, Tyler Palko. The former Browns are going to have a frickin field day tommorow.

Tyler Palko is 1 (very likely) hit away from playing against Joe Flacko in the NFL.

This must happen.

Interesting that Flacko couldn't beat Palko out and transferred to Delaware. Interesting subplot to talk about while the Stillers get taken to the woodshed I guess.

how would Big ben tossing up 3 INT's and fumbling the ball twice help you in fantasy?

If the NFL decides to make players with concussions have a mandatory week off, that will cause all sorts of problems...

What about players who get concussed heading into the bye week? That wouldn't be fair to the other teams.

Also, you'll see a lot fewer concussions, for sure.

With the play calling of the Steelers limited to about 5 different plays,(to each side) even Dixon should have no problem learning those ones.

He didn't look bad in pre season, I hope he does well.

A) An unofficial twitter feed is not exactly accurate.
B) He's practiced all week without incident.

Unfortunately, he's sucked for about 4 or 5 weeks. I'd be fine with holding him out if Batch was not hurt. Now we're potentially throwing our season away.

IAmRight: That will lead to underreporting concussions.

I didn't consider that, but I imagine that would lead to heavy fines and forfeiture of draft picks if they tried to sweep that stuff under the rug. If the QB gets laid out scrambling on a third and long and spends the defensive series sitting on the bench looking shell-shocked with a half dozen trainers tending to him, I would HOPE that the officials or Goodell could read between the lines. Or would this lead to the NFL employing its own trainers the same way they supply officials each game...?

Either way, as the sufferer of two concussions, I can lampshade potato the shellfish sandwich regarding Wayne Newton.

abmoraz 2009-11-28 10:37:45 PM
Ok, I gotta give credit where credit is due. After lambasting the subby of the previous Roethlisberger concussion headline as being completely not funny, I have to give this subby a 10/10 on the LULZ scale.

Start Dixon because he's the best runner.

Foaming [TotalFark] 2009-11-29 03:00:38 AM
The thing I remember most about Dixon was how well he sold fakes. He'd either hand the ball off or run it himself and it looked exactly the same. It was enough to get you pissed off at the cameramen who were following the wrong guy half the time.

NKURyan 2009-11-29 04:02:55 AM
The Ravens still have to, you know, score points against Pittsburgh in order to win. Not the easiest thing in the world to do, with or without Polamalu. Good luck!

/Bengals fan
