FTFA, it says that the principal banned a kid for a facebook page about meep. That HAS to be somehow illegal...

Troggie42: FTFA, it says that the principal banned a kid for a facebook page about meep. That HAS to be somehow illegal...

The problem is that it isn't something legally defined. Working on my B. Ed. now, and I don't know if it's the same down south, but up here if a principal has the board's support, he's pretty much got carte blanche on most things like this.

And the problem with that is that, IMO, the people who make up school boards are the exact people who should not be allowed on them, 90% of the time.

SwiftFox [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-11-28 12:21:59 PM
Damned spoiled kids nowadays.

They should pay for their meep like everyone else instead of expecting it to be handed to them for nothing.

As the facebook page was off-campus and not part of a school-sponsored event, I don't think even the slim restrictions allowed by Tinker vs. Des Moines and Morse v Frederick apply. This school is treading on very thin ice, legally.

Barakku [TotalFark] 2009-11-28 12:42:51 PM
Students will be expelled for thinking "meep," or using the letters M E E P within three words of each other in a spoken or writen sentence.

Skail [TotalFark] 2009-11-28 01:21:29 PM
Talk about exacerbating a problem. The principal and school board, in this case, are freaking idiots... more so than the kids, themselves.

Actually, if the page was accessed at all while on campus he can be punished, or if the page makes reference to the school or staff

If the damn principal would just let them have their fun, it will run its course just like any other meme. Continuing to crack down and swinging wildly at any mention of the word only encourages the students to keep it up. He seriously needs to learn some basic child psychology.

Richard Vernon: You're not fooling anyone, Bender. The next screw that falls out will be you.
John Bender: Eat my meep.
Richard Vernon: What was that?
John Bender: Eat... My... Meep.
Richard Vernon: You just bought yourself another Saturday.
John Bender: Ooh, I'm meeped.
Richard Vernon: You just bought one more.
John Bender: Well I'm meep the Saturday after that. Beyond that, I'm going to have to check my calendar.
Richard Vernon: Good, cause it's going to be filled. We'll keep going. You want another one? Just say the word say it. Instead of going to prison you'll come here. Are you through?
John Bender: Meep.
Richard Vernon: I'm doing society a favor.
John Bender: Meep?
Richard Vernon: That's another one right now! I've got you for the rest of your natural born life if you don't watch your step. You want another one?
John Bender: Meep.
Richard Vernon: You got it! You got another one right there! That's another one pal!
Claire Standish: Cut it out!
Richard Vernon: You through?
John Bender: Not even close meep!
Richard Vernon: Good! You got one more right there!
John Bender: You really think I give a meep?
Richard Vernon: Another! You through?
John Bender: How many is that?
Brian Johnson: That's seven including when we first came in and you asked Mr. Vernon whether Barry Manilow knew that he raided his closet.
Richard Vernon: Now it's eight. You stay out of this.
Brian Johnson: Excuse me sir, it's seven.

This story was getting mostly local coverage until the dumbass principal PO'd an out-of-state attorney.

There's a summary of prior threads here.

The various prior threads each had one or two people saying they hoped 4chan would get involved. And then a few others saying (correctly, IMO) that maybe that wasn't a good idea, because those guys can really go overboard. But at this point, Principal Murray has had literally thousands of people from all over the world emailing, faxing, snail-mailing and phoning him meeps, and he STILL thinks he has either the legal authority or the practical ability to stop people from saying meep? I've reconsidered, and now I'm thinking that stupidity of this magnitude deserves whatever the /b/tards can dish out.

/Yes, I know they're not my personal army.

Jesus, at this point, it's not about the word meep, it's about the fact that these students have so FEW rights, that they can't even say "meep" for entirely arbitrary "reasons".

I wasn't really interested in this story until now. Something should....happen...to that principal.

IonBeam2 2009-11-28 03:11:38 PM
LaFleur said he has already been suspended twice for meeping, including once for creating a Facebook page asking about making shirts "to show how stupid it is we are getting banned from saying 'meep.'"

He said he wants students and the administration to get together and use money raised from the sale of the T-shirts to create a scholarship "raising awareness of constitutional law and what is right."

No, awareness of constitutional law cannot be tolerated. It would and is completely undermining the authority of the school administration.

Sounds like the principal was meeped when he was a kid. Being meeped isn't something you ever get over. How would you feel if every day some kids were meeping around you, bringing back painful memories of your childhood when you were meeped? It wouldn't feel very meep now meep it? It's just meep that so many meeps don't meep the meep of meep.

Actually, I'm 100% behind this principle who apparently bases his persona on every principle/dean from every 80's movie. The world is more interesting with a good villain. I just hope the students give this guy a full double-feature's worth of pranks. In fact, I wish this guy had been around when I was in school.
