GAH! This game was played just down the road from me! I wish I would have caught it!

Loves me some 6 man ball. It is crazy!

So apparently 6 man means non-existent defense.

Epsilon: So apparently 6 man means non-existent defense.

Kind of. They have a mercy rule which is applied with regularity.

Yeah, but at the same time, defense might be key in this game because a defensive stop would probably completely swing the momentum back to the other team.

Basically... yea. There's only so much area 6 people can cover and almost every tackle is an 'open field' tackle. Well executed screens are deadly and short passes lobbed to the center if they rush 2 men can make 10-15 yards every time.

I just Wiki'd the main differences in 6 man football:

-FG is 4 points, not 3, due to 6 on 4 at the line of scrimmage (with holder and kicker back) being lopsided.
-PAT is 2 points, for same reason as FG. A "regular" score (pass/run for PAT) is only 1 point.
-Field is 80 yards long.
-15 yards for a first down
-Mercy rule applies when a team is leading by 45 points at halfime or later.
-Everyone is an eligible receiver.
-Need minimum 3 men on the line of scrimmage.

How interesting.....I'm sure lots of casual players would love to start/enter leagues with these rules.

They have 8-man football here in New Mexico. The scores look like they're playing basketball.

6 Man Football, a sport created in Nebraska during the great depresssion. Interesting Read on it. (new window)

Dancin_In_Anson: A little video explaining 6 man.

That kid tarping the module in that vid... if he would roll out the tarp behind the builder and tie the front corners to the bottom of the gate, when he pulls off the module, it'll literally pull tight and tarp itself. Takes 30 seconds. No climbing on it and knocking corners off.

We're starting to see 7760's around here, so modules will soon be a thing of the past.

Makes for good video though! The thing that caught me was that Rule is primarily cotton while Guthrie (less than 50 miles acf) is was and will be The Sixes.

This needs to be a regular thing. We need full-size schools to do this. This seems like it'd be an absolute blast to watch.

Montana/South Dakota State almost got that many with full teams.

Only 109 points though.

My father played 6-man high school football in New Mexico. He said he didn't really want to play, but there were only 6 guys in the school including him.

Does Green Bay know that team stole their 'G'?

FTFA: Garden City advances to play Follett or Meadow in a semifinal game at a time, day and place to be determined. The Bearkats also avenged some recent woes against Throckmorton, including a 74-46 loss in Week 0.

Where do I even start with this? "Week 0"? I knew six-man football was different, but Week 0?

I have thought the same thing for a while. Make it speed football rules with a weight limit and have the season in the spring to allow smaller guys a chance to play.

I always played 11 man, but for one game in middle school we played 8 man against a really small school. It was the most fun I'd ever had playing football.

Richland Springs is just south of me, and they are perennially #1-2 in the nation.

38-32 after the FIRST QUARTER. Fan-farking-tastic. Forget UFL, this is what Versus needs in their lineup.

This game does seem to have a lot of potential. Imagine how deadly trick plays would be, with only 6 guys the defense doesn't really have the people to cover the backside. If you manage to convince everyone you're going in one direction then you are home free.

I can only imagine the point system in this if there was a fantasy league for this.

Wouldn't it be the same as Arena Football though?

I drove to San Antonio last month, and there is NOTHING in between El Paso and San Antonio.

I almost ran out of gas twice, it was so desolate.

Should have been a relatively quick trip then...

Texas school boy football recently allowed schools 11 weeks to play 10 games. It is preferred that everyone start on the same weekend (i.e. week 1), but some schools will schedule their game a week earlier, hence week 0.

Welcome to Texas.

Many high school athletic programs co-opt their nicknames, fight songs, mascots and insignia from college and professional programs. More during our in-depth team coverage at 11.

My college roomate played 6 man in Iowa, he said it was fun as hell.

We'd scrimmage at 6 a side sometimes in HS if we needed to refine part of a defense. Incredibly fun, and for someone who played both ways (OL and DT for me most games), exhausting. Absolute blast.
