It's far from the best football in the world, but I wouldn't miss it. Except for the first two scoring plays. Thanks, TSN.

No.

Now, since no one wants to green a real college football thread, let's discuss Oklahoma's foot-shooting in here for now until important games are on.

Also, US college football has several championships.

There are several conference championships, true. But the national championship game is a joke.

There are several divisions of college football, all of which are better than the Canadians.

And you want to talk jokes, you're talking Canadian college football.

AND someone must've told OU this is a BCS Bowl.

Thank you for the excellent coverage TSN. It's a good thing you outbid The Score, who have been covering the CIS all year.

Can we just have a one game playoff between the SEC and the Big-12 instead of all of this BCS garbage? It would be better for the game. We wouldn't have to worry about O-State being overrated,USC cheating, or Utah teams going undefeated playing high-school quality competition.

Is there some law in Canada that every friggin' championship be called a "Cup"? In the U.S. we have Series, Bowls, Cups, Finals, and Championships.

Even a mediocre American university would run over a good Canadian one.

Now hockey on the other hand, you guys would probably have an edge. I think an international collegiate hockey championship would be awesome.

I'd like to see a US team play by three-down rules with all receivers in motion and on a CIS-size field. I don't think they would win.

Agreed...great game so far and looks like it will come down to the wire. Queens just recovered a fumble.

I'd love to see a US team try a 'fair catch'. Biggest pussy rule in sports , IMHO.

I believe they call it a cup because that's what they playing for (i.e. the trophy -- the Stanley Cup, the Vanier Cup, the Grey Cup). Now, you'll have to bear with me here... if the thing you're competing for isn't shaped like a cup, you don't call it a cup (e.g. in the Queen's Plate you compete for a plate). The real question is: why do we have bowl games where the teams neither compete in a bowl-shaped stadium nor for a bowl-shaped trophy.

Rodeodoc 2009-11-28 04:45:09 PM
As an ex-Calgarian and Canadian, I'm getting a kick out of... wait, no. The replies are mostly 'tarded.

Unfortunately, fellow Canadians, most any high school team in Florida or Texas (the limit of my US high school football knowledge)could kick the azz of any Canadian college team. And probably a couple of CFL teams. It's a cultural thing. The Canadian education system isn't quite so focused on sports. On the plus side for Canada, graduates of Canadian universities are literate and educated. Those same Texas and Florida college grads are operating at about the same level as a Canadian ninth grader.

Priorities.

Admiral Digby 2009-11-28 05:26:55 PM
Great game .

However , those above are correct when pointing out that many US high school teams could beat the best Canadian university team .

FTWiki: In contrast, there is no fair catch rule in Canadian football: instead no player from the kicking team except the kicker or any player who was behind him when he kicked the ball may approach within five yards of the ball until it has been touched by an opponent. If they do, a "no yards" penalty is called against the kicking team.

So not being allowed to come within 5 yards of the ball is a more "manly" rule? You sir are an idiot.

Fair catch is only called when the opposing team is within 5 yards anyways. By your rules, instead of a fair catch the coverage team would just have to wait for the player to make the catch. Wow big difference.

So basically the fair catch would go like this : American player waves his hand in the air, Canadians put on the brakes before 5 yards away. Then a weak open field tackle.

Give any BCS/FCS team a couple weeks to play by your rules and they would dominate. They might even win the game without practicing your rules, mostly because it favors athleticism and the American players are definitely faster, more elusive in open field and stronger.

Your CFL is loaded with NFL drop-outs. I already gave you hockey, don't even bother trying to convince people that Canadian schools would ever beat American schools at football. Regardless of who's rules we play by.

I doubt it. All Canadians of that age, with any real skill, are in the Major Junior leagues or down in the States on big time college programs already.

Canadian college hockey, while getting better, is not all that good.
