Why protect them? I say weed them out.

As a knitter, I don't completely 'get' the concept of Guerilla Knitting.

Too much time on their hands.

But what about the hard, unforgiving ground? I propose laying matresses everywhere, so i don't hurt my puny, easy breakable body when i fall down in a drunken stupor.

Who thought this was a good idea and who approved of it? By council? Come on Nanny state, can't you take a little faster care of your damn kids?

If you break anything when falling, you're not drunk enough.

FTFA: "I think it's a lovely idea. Seeing the brightly coloured patterns would cheer anyone up on a rainy day."

i bet this is exactly what all the douche taggers say when they are spray painting my city at 4 AM.

If you get drunk and walk home, you've got bigger problems than just poles (new window).

It's a godsend for students too drunk to avoid a signpost.
A godsend??? Really? and wouldn't bubblewrap work better?
Bubblewrap ROCKS!

I live in Edinburgh (really getting a kick...) and my friend does yarn bombs all around the street where she lives. Cthulhu ones, with tentacles and whatnot. She wasn't responsible for this one - although she spotted it a couple of days ago.

I think trying to impose some kind of functional use on yarn bombing detracts from it's main purpose (i.e., making things nice and colourful).

If they were to wrap the poles in bubble wrap the students would spend all night popping it.

Seriously: There's something about bubble wrap that makes people want to pop the damned thing.

I know! And I've popped on that site! Almost as good as the real thing.

But what will happen to the double dog dares now?

GungFu: er, why don't drunken students just wear thick wool sweaters instead?

Because its far too warm for a coat or sweater.
It needs to get down to at least -15c before you see a Scot in a coat.

Which street is this? I live in Edinburgh as well. It may be worth a quick trip to see the happy Cthulhu knitting.

I did that once, but it was in Morningside, not near the university.

An Edinburgh University security guard working in Bristo Square said: "It's been there for a while now, I don't really understand it. It looks like a tea cosy. Maybe people were just trying to keep the signpost warm."

Yes, the signpost was cold.

In Morningside they have 100% cashmere covers made by Pringle of Scotland.

It's a great way to use up all the baby-melting acrylic yarn you procure as a new knitter.

Do they still have all the skateboarders in Bristo Square? The padding would be more beneficial to them than the tipsy students I suspect.

It isa British town :-)

'That could be one of the reasons why a thick woolly jumper is currently adorning a signpost in Edinburgh's Bristo Square.'

Could be...bad subby caption. baaaad subby.

Lots43 2009-11-29 08:44:16 PM
So what about the urban legend of the skier? He pulls the padding off the support pole, uses it to go sledding and hits and kills/injures himself on the same pole he unwrapped.
