Shatner is just Kirk, but Adam West is the God-damned Batman!

SpinStopper [TotalFark] 2009-11-27 07:58:56 PM
Kirk had a green blooded alien sidekick with pointed ears and telepathy.

Batman had a boy for a sidekick ;)

I could try to keep this going, but it's week.

Lest my history of Alexander the Great is off, but wasn't he gay?

So that means West would be Alexander and Shatner would be his sidekick.

/cause nobody can make Shatner Gay

I'm dating myself here, but I remember watching this movie on TV as a kid.

And the original Star Trek and Batman series too.

/What was the first Star Trek episode to air on TV?
//Hint: It wasn't one of the two pilots.

That reckless television pilot will surely bankrupt the studio, old chum!

*ssshh*

/not obscure

Wow, I just love that in the first minute or two, it's obvious that their 'Persia' is just the American southwest. Yeah, it's just a pilot, but still. Have some pride, men.

FunkOut [TotalFark] 2009-11-28 12:09:58 AM
That would have been a very popular show with all the closeted gay men back in that era. Sweaty oiled muscular men in skirts getting into sword fights and wrestling matches.

Dialectic 2009-11-28 12:10:21 AM
Just think, if this show had been picked up, there might never have been a series about humanity boldly going where no man had gone before...!

So, who topped who?

Adam West has impressive thighs.

I'm reading Shatner's autobiography right now, so this is...in... good timing.

Moodybastard 2009-11-28 01:04:19 AM
So...

Spock/Batman

dead Klingons/Jokers everywhere.

Wow, watching this thing.. They certainly recycled EVERY prop they could find....sorta nostalgic

No.

There is no conclusive evidence that suggests Alexander was gay.

Now, there is plenty of speculation in various primary sources, especially over his relationship with Hephaestion (they were very close friends), and there were rumors and slanders.

He did enter into relationships with women, and did father a child.

So based on what we know, he was heterosexual, with a possibility of bisexuality, but not gay.

No, as for the pilot. Historical mistakes aside, am I the only one who enjoyed it?

That would sound complete bizarre to anyone from that time.

He had sex with women for procreation, and with men for fun - a not uncommon arrangment, they didn't really have "gay" back then.

And reality agains fails to deliver true greatness.

You misunderstand

There is no evidence to suggest that Alexander did have relationships with men.

It was interesting. Not necessarily good, but interesting none the less. A "Wagon Train to Ancient Greece" if you will.

Shatner and West in "Alexander the Great".

All they'd need would be Gil Gerard, and the combined egos would have sunk most of So Cal without even the need for The Big One.

/Gerard is the biggest asshole I ever met, bar none.
//and no sense of humor, either.

At the Shore Leave con in Baltimore, several of the Trek novel authors do Mystery Trekkie Theater each year. As the name implies, they usually riff on a Star Trek episode.

Three years ago, they did Alexander. This made the whole thing doubly hilarious. It's probably the only way I could have sat through the entirety of this pilot.

No love for the time that Shatner and Nemoy were in the same TV show episode together pre-Star Trek?

Man from U.N.C.L.E. ftw!

The show it's a pity wasn't picked up is Lookwell (pops). Conan O'Brien and Robert Smigel wrote it for Adam West because only he could pull off the comedy.

Bill Maher says the pilot (clicky above) is the funniest half hour he's ever seen.

Nope, that was the second pilot. The first Star Trek episode to air on TV was "The Man Trap."

At 11, I was amazed by the phasers, transporters, the starship Enterprise design, and the storyline that evening. I became an instant fan.

Strangely, this arouses me more than thinking of Bill as a gladiator on horseback.

I'll be in my bunk...
