Not fake. He has his own website where he posts exchanges such as these all the time: http://www.27bslash6.com/

Amazing sense of humour. Evidently unappealing to uptight people, however - which is who he targets.

Blockbuster brought back late fees in some countries, and in others it never got rid of them.

Story still sounds made up.

Rambling is a tactic, I'm sure of this. I am a claims adjuster and my simple questions of "how did this happen" or "when did this happen" will often result in complete authentic trailer park jibberish that makes no sense what so ever.

I'm forced to ignore most the rambling musings.

I take offense to the Logan's Run dissing in the article. That's some great 70s sci-fi, with some naked Jenny Aguter action as a bonus.

BuckyFellini: Amazing sense of humour. Evidently unappealing to uptight people, however - which is who he targets.

Seeing as how he starts off as a jackass, I don't think he's targetting "uptight people" so much as using the fact that businesses tend to prefer that communication with customers, particularly those who owe them money, follow a certain tone, format and progression for humorous ends. It's funny, but it's a little like being a bully in that the people with whom he is conversing have to deal with eccentrics and jerks all the time and could lose their job with a misstep; they're fairly well forced into responding in a way a guy like this can easily use. (Yes, I know, everyone has a bad customer service rep story.) From what little I've read, the reps are rather courteous to him, anything but uptight, unless "doing their job" qualifies.

ModernLuddite 2009-11-27 11:00:39 AM
This kind of thing really isn't that funny. Because EVERY college kid does shiat like this these days, in every situation, at all times. And as one of the millions of people who encounter these smirking morons while just trying to do their job and pay their rent, I have to say that it's not funny when it's all you hear. Having somebody be polite and settle their business in under thirty seconds would be more surprising at this point in our society.

THis part:

"Dear Megan,

Those prices seem reasonable. I do not want Logan's Run but will pick up the other three when I come in next.

Regards, David."

Absolutely cracked me up.

I agree. It's the jackass mentality. That's why we can't have nice things.

Wow. We really do sound like a culture of incompetent whiners.

Dude, you kept the movies for three weeks. If you don't like their policy, use Netflix (I do, largely for that very reason). If you like the convenience of driving to the local store to get movies, then either return them on time or deal with the late fees. Whether or not you happen to think it "fair" does not matter - You agreed to those terms, honor them.

And yes, I very well might have really wanted to see Logan's Run, and felt pretty pissed off that they told me, day after day for three weeks, that some inconsiderate twit still had it out.

As for olapbill's link... Wow. Just wow. Clue up, folks - "No Late Fees" describes a marketing campaign, not a total waver of personal responsibility. They have clear terms of rental printed right on your damned receipt - If you can't manage to get it back on time, just pay the fee, don't blog about how the big evil company actually made you honor your side of a legally-binding contract!

For those who "didn't know" that they would directly debit your accounts - Again, read the damned terms of service; but beyond that, why exactly do you think they try really really hard to get you to "ID" yourself with a credit or debit card when you sign up? Doesn't that raise any red flags in your naive little brains about working exactly backward from how "identification" usually works?

I could segue this to a rant on people who complain about overdraft charges, but let's stick with one issue at a time. Financial responsibility, America, Learn some.

If it makes you happier, feel free to replace that word with "Western Civilization".

Good catch, though, and excellent use of selectively quoting just my parting throw-away comment as a means of invalidating the rest of my post. 7/10!
