32% abv? It must taste like gasoline.

This just in: Drew seen running through the lobby of Glasgow international airport carrying nothing but a funnel and a family sized bottle of advil.

FTA - It is a product with a lot of alcohol in it - that's all. To dress it up as anything else is cynical."

Is cynical one of those words that means something different over there?

I imagine it tastes not unlike used motor oil. It may have the same consistency, too.

I'll stick with Stone for the time being.

Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown NY makes some very good high-AC Belgian-style beers.

Is it bad that I giggled at the name of the beer? It sounds like it belongs to a punk rock band.

/btw, haddie, you rock for making me LOL so loud it startled my cat with your comment.

64 Proof?

That's not bad, but somehow I'm thinking you're not really going to need a shot to go along with one of those puppies...

Also IIRC dogfish head has an IPA around 20% alcohol.

"cynical" is their word for an elevator, alternately a "lorry"

Looked it up, their 120 Minute IPA, Fort and World Wide Stout are all 18% by volume.

Wow and I though the Sam Adams Imperial White at 10.3% ABV tasted like cough syrup, this probably tastes like complete ass.

I will be really surprised if it doesn't just taste like hopped whiskey.

True. Unfortunately, the 120 Min. IPA used to be 20%, but they reduced it to 18% not too long ago.

/Tried the Sam Adam Utopias @ 28%.

luckily, after the first few gulps you probably won't care about the taste

natemc 2009-11-27 02:53:39 AM
hubiestubert: Absolutely! Then I RTFA and saw this...

"It was then stored in a freezer at a chilly -20°C for three weeks to reach its massive alcohol level."

Freeze distilling! I'm revoking it's beer card, this is not beer. I also bet it gives you one hell of a hangover thanks to all the fusel alcohols that don't get taken out in this method of distillation.

Also just freeze distilling a stout doesn't take as much skill as crafting a mash that will hit a target that high and then getting it to ferment completely, that would be a worthy feat.

Interesting, I was just watching a homebrew podcast earlier this week where they discussed making ice beer in a similar manner. The took a big porter and iced it down to 20 something percent abv, their take was that it came out kind of like brandy. Funny enough they also touched on legality as distillation at home is not legal, but the ATF apparantly stopped caring after getting sucked into DHS and their state board had no objections.

Shiner Smokehaus is pretty good, and reasonably priced.

Big deal. Any beer can be made to be 32% alcohol. Just buy a bottle of Everclear and add it to your favorite beer.

FURIOUS health chiefs last night slammed brewery bosses after they launched the strongest beer in the WORLD.

Good thing they don't sell vodka, rum, gin, whiskey or tequila in that country. Then they'd really be in trouble.

I can get a 40oz of Pit Bull High Gravity Malt Liquor for about $1.79, it's about as ghetto as you can get and cheaper than dirt.

It's only 10.2% alcohol but when they sell it that cheap, it's guaranteed to disorient you in a hurry.

Fleet: I imagine it tastes not unlike used motor oil. It may have the same consistency, too.

You've obviously tried Scottish beer before...

Jamieboy 2009-11-27 04:02:23 AM
Gee Willikers - thank FSM it's £30 ($50) a bottle. If it were cheap, I can see half of Scotland's youth being taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning. Oh, wait, that's a normal thing over there anyway, unfortunately. As a frequent visitor to Scotland, and having seen first hand how those boys and girls drink, I find it amazing that young men and woman have any liver functions after the age of 25 (I've seen the brother of a friend of mine drink a bottle of scotch, way too many beers and wash down 7 or 8 paracetamol tabs before passing out, and he's considered a light weight).

Jack Law, chief executive of Alcohol Focus Scotland, said: "It is child-like attention-seeking by a company that should be more responsible.

I have to agree with the gentleman. It does seem like attention whoring. Why, for the love of Mike do we need a beer with 32% abv? It must taste like methylated spirits, not that I've ever tried meths.

I know, I know. Get off my lawn.

I haven't gone past Dopplebock, where I fell in love with Paulaner's Salvator. I knew it was love when I decided I would rather drink one of those than a Hacker-Pschorr weissbier. I'm not opposed to a threesome, though.
